Well it looks like my heads done the toyo thing too...

150,000 kms exactly according to the "honest Trev, its a jap import", speedo. Never in my hands been overheated via the radiator, always warmed both up and down, but I do like speed...... Perhaps I need to get that Pyro :pooh:
At idle whilst warm I have whitish smoke out the exhaust and the water levels going down in the radiator, 0.5 litre in 90km - may be sooner. Bubbles blowing past the radiator cap into the expansion bottle.
What does it cost for a new head? :pale: And where is the best place to get them?
Is it a good idea to swap out the bearing shells at the same time as well?
I hear they are something that should get done.
Who is a decent diesel mechanic that
I can trust near Chch or Rangiora? I am picky

I simply dont have time to do the majority of the work right now.
Is the intercooled engine any better and should I just go for a 2nd hand one of these?
Anyone got a cheap car for sale?

If I had $$$$'s I would use Diesel Services. As for getting the head call Japanese Diesel Parts, they may have a second hand one. Otherwise Toyota was cheapest for the bear head.
Cost me $1400 last time for head and fitting of valves etc. Head should be $800-$900 from Toyota if you get a good deal.

I feel for ya man, just going through the same process but further along.
got my head and full gasket set from Toyota for $1200. $600 to get the everything swapped over, cam seals fitted, valves ground, 4 new exhaust valves($120 each from toyota or use after market ones from the engine recon shop) , head resurfaced (had it frozen to toughen it up), radiator recored to 4 core, still need to get exhaust done. Its all sitting in my garage waiting to be fitted.
What ever you do it aint gonna be cheap. I've chosen to get all the problems eliminated at once and its cost me 3k all up with me doing the removal and refitting.
Have fun....cause i sure as hell havnt

cheap trucks are great, things break - cheap bits fix em. expensive trucks break just as much but it takes expensive bits to fix the retarded things! worse thing is, im still paying the lemon off!!!!

Mike >>> what did it cost you to get the head Cryo- geniced ? also do you know how they did it , the process ? ( there are different process's and i know which one i want ), think theres only one place in CHCH that does it .
I will be doing my 13BT build soon and plan to get a heap of stuff ( crank, rods , pistons ,flyweel head , block , etc ) cryoed . its sappost to be the premeier hardening process , better than Tuftride & Nitride .
