Oxford Mud Plug Chaos

Post by SupraLux »

So who went? And who thought it was poorly organised and poorly executed?

I was amazed at the one-way street it was run along, that all the competition vehicles AND all the public vehicles had to try and squeeze past each other to use. I left around lunchtime and it took me 1/2 an hour to get from the carpark to the entrance.

I was similarly amazed at the tractor driver who 'extracted' a stuck Nissan (who was in turn trying to extract a stuck red MU - who seemed to be stuck in every event I looked at) by snatching him with a solid rope! I don't think Roy from the car seatcover warehouse who owned the truck was very impressed - I got that imression when he damn near climbed into the back of the tractor and started telling the driver all about god and stuff :P

Most of the vehicles seemed to spend most of the day waiting for the truck in front to be extracted from what were, for the most part, far too dificult stages for normal 4WDs - and several stages had no clear and easy extraction path - so (once again) the red MU found out - he dropped over a bank and the marshals destroyed a winch and spent ages trying to get him unstuck - it was comical. Most of the people watching could see it was pointless, but they tryed anyway.

All in all, pretty dissapointing with a few humerous moments thrown in - like watching Roy go nuts at the tractor driver.

Anyone else have any other thoughts on it?

regards

Steve

I found it quite inspiring, but yes I agree there were a few issues.
As for access, that was a tough one with the event being in the bottom of a gully.

Yeah I thought some of the holes the competitors had to get in & out of were nigh on impossible, but some were do-able but many of the competitors simply couldnt get around or through with out a oppertunity to reverse half a meter or so,i dont understand why the rules cant allow that.its not like they are slowing anyone else down.& it would make it more enjoyable for all.
as for the access road ,its just something that everone needs to relise is often going to be the case & try to get there early(im not having a go at ya supralux) so most are traveling in the same direction.but its hard to control i know.but i arrived at 10 o'clock & it only took five minutes to get to the top car park .
Its to be expected i suppose,as these events are more than likely to be held on someones farm.so hats off to the owner of the land for allowing access :thumleft:
All in all.im pleased i got the oppertunity to go & see one of these events, even if it could have been better ,I now know what to expect next time,so im better for the experience .

We were certainly cracking up regarding the MU gettng stuck in EVERY section.
Regarding the road though, it was one way and it continued through the top car park and out again.. no traffic went that way, but it was clearly marked on the map.. so i guess people just plain got it wrong?

Didn't even realise. Well we did leave the map in the surf, then after we went back and got it ended up loosing it. Not that we were missing much as we managed to nearly walk the entire event and back with the same queue up on each track

As for the event, some obstacles it was plain to see that nothing was going to get through it. But it was fun as steve pointed out watching the recoverys. Im surprised the old tree didnt break before the winch went though

Pity you missed the rest of the road, it was almost an event in itself!
