Planning a long weekend off-roading at Rallywoods here in Wellington.
Being a long weekend and still about 2 months away there is no excuse for some of you Northern folk ( or Southeners willing to cross the ditch) to not come and join us.
Camping permitted on site or spend the night in the hut. The hut is accessible by two wheel drive vehicles towing trailers. Secure parking for trailers etc. (it is a private property) Current charges are $10 per vehicle per day and $5.00 per person to stay the night ($10.00 family with 2 kids)
Still giving the format some thought, i.e. wether to cater for different levels of difficulty ("insane" and "sheer lunacy" )
Suggestions most welcome.

Well Ive booked the friday and tuesday off work, the wife said "Maybe" so pencil me and one other for the hut please... All assuming LP is in one piece etc......
For the out of towners who don't know where Rallywoods is and who have Google Earth installed on their computers.
Download this file:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~cloggy/Green_Hut.kmz Unzip to location of choice, double click the unzipped file (probably called doc.kml) and Google Earth will open taking you direct to the Green Hut in Rallywoods.
Then you can see where in relation to Wellington, Upper and Lower Hutt and Porirua, Rallywoods is located.

Cloggy, can you have a think about the trip requirements, ie meeting points, safety requirements, drivers briefing etc, start and finish times etc and do up a little trip sheet thingy, we will need one for the next newsletter.

Right on the button with Moonshine Road where it intersects with Haywards Hill Road/SH58
Then down Bulls Run Road which more or less ends at Rallywoods.

Yes, I at the moment I am thinking of having maps available for handout which will show the general property layout with all the main tracks and hazards marked. Could then grade the hazards easy or hard so you don't end up driving a shiny (well it might have been the day before you came to Rallywoods) vehicle down a narrow track only to be confronted by a metre deep mudbog for which your gonna need 37" tyres and then have to try and turn around whilst a rally truck is parked up your back bumper.
Depending on the turn-out on the day we could possibly split the vehicles into smallish groups of similar capabilities to make negotiating the terrain easier. The emphasis will be on having fun.
Cooking facilities are very basic. Best to bring your own cooker. Across from the hut there is a barn like structure but with open sides, In the centre of this there a large open fireplace with about 4 very basic cooktops (steel plate above the fire). Probably better used for keeping warm, sitting around the fire and telling bullshit stories than cooking.
The hut itself has a generator, phone, stereo (last time I looked), piano, basic kitchen etc. Nothing flash, most of it could do with some TLC.
Somebody must have some photos, otherwise I'll take some so you guys know what you are in for.
