You know the usual cut to the lower rear quater panels, seiing as they are dented already.

Has anyone done this personally?

Or can you recomend anyone that can do it (and on a 'cash' budget). I have the usual panel shop contacts, but d rather go to someone that has actually done one before.

Other than a few wires, andthing else to watch out for?

Btw, has to be Chch also.

Its simple as 8)

Mark where you want to cut ( i cut along the bottom of the line of the crease in the panel), get ya body saw/angle grinder with skinny cutting disc out, and cut for ya life

Just watch out for the rear body mount, ya don't wanna cut to much of that out

Then get some card board out, make a template for the plate you going to weld on, cut the plates out and mig em in. Drill a hole for drainage purposes, and coat the inside and out side liberally with underbody sealer. Paint, and your done. Took me a good weekend to do it, as i'm useless at that sorta stuff, but turned out ok 8)

Jesus!! Talk about Rough!!

lol (kidding)

Ive got all the gear to do it, so maybe I should. Hrmmmm, maybe why the hell not actually. I got sat morning free. hahahah

I just didnt want to warp the panels with welding, but I guess if I do it in spots I'll be fine.

Other concern is our mig is quite high powered with thick wire, so not so good for panel.

Thanks Ryan, might be a bit un-cost-effective to bring it to welly.

I got a mate to come help me with the welding, he used a 120amp mig with gas and .6mm wire.

Now that i can weld a little bit my self, i welded in the floor pans and all the patches on the 50 with a 120 amp mig using .9mm flux cored wire. Its pretty slow going, you have to do it in short bursts, wait till it stops glowing, then weld again, over and over and over

Sure, I'll have a better look at it this weekend, see if I can hunt down an old fridge or stove to knick the panel steal from and I'll get back to you ay.

I'll confirm we have gas in our smaller mig at work, and do some practice on the sheet.

Hopefully do it next weekend?

My dad didnt like the way that the sills were just cut off, and so he made a cut out in them to fit the bar instead. You may be able to see in in these pics

Worselys did put a Little dent in the bottom, yes, but its been something Ive wanted to do for a long time.

Ive pushed the side in on one when playing at the river also, so the cut will get rid of that too.

Looking at doing the same to the paj, have you had any hassels at WOF time after doing this ?

Theoretically, you shouldnt have any probs with a wof, especially with a safari, as cabin and chassis are seperate items. If its a monococ body, it may be an issue.
