3zve water pump query

howdy y'all.. a mate of mine is trying to change out a water pump on the 3litre petrol surf engine - Ive done one on my 1kzte and I had to remove the timing belt.. no biggie cos i was doing the belt anyway but he wants to get away with it without taking the belt off, anyone know if its possible and perhaps even a few tips on the removal?

Need to remove the belt sorry. Or at least i had to on my VZN130. For $50 why doesn't he just put a new one on while he's there for peace of mind?

yeah i wouldnt go putting a cam belt back on again after pulling it off either.. great way to wreck a perfectly good engine and a damn good excuse for a 1ux transplant, and besides i have always replaced cam belts and water pumps at the same time.... but I'm a diesel monkey.
