Heading down the Ashley from the Gorge campgound at about 1000 on saturday morning. Head down river until we hit the north bank track after the Okuku and then play in the mud. Should be fun after the recent rain. Have checked river flows and they are headng down. Snorkels required and tow hooks. AT tyres wll be fine.

i was kindof organising a trip down the selwyn bt would be keen to change it and tag along if thats ok with you and if the guys that were cumin with us so far were keen. were only 3 or 4 trucks that had confirmed so far.
Yep saw that, no probs with tagging along. Only did the Selwyn about 6 weeks ago so wasn't keen on that. The Ashley will be soft, challenging and the track will be muddy after all this rain . Say meet at the gorge campground down by the river at 1000 for a 1015 departure. My cellphone number is 021 925114.

From Chch head out along the Northern motorway, and take the first off ramp to the left after the Waimak. This is Tram Road.
Drive Tram road (all the way to the endof it) until you get to Oxford Rd at an area called Bennetts. Turn left here.A short distance along Oxford Road is the Town Oxford. Turn Right at the first intersection in Oxford onto Ashley GorgeRoad.
About 5 minutes drive is the Gorge campground on the left, just before the Ashley river.
Have fun!
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along. Ph 0212078472
Hey Al, if you want to make it really interesting, go up stream from the camping ground, into the gorge. For first time in, you could probably expect to take all day to cover about 3-4 kms Snorkels, good ground clearance and at least 1 traction aid required. But and awesome trip.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Oh, take a towel as well... and a Vax wet'n'dry vacuum cleaner when you get home would be useful... I remember my trip in there with Suprasurf years back... found out that the Hilux didn't float, it sinks... water pouring over the door and in through the windows onto my lap... still driving, just very wet

I am meeting a mate at the Belfast pub between 0900 -0915. Leaving there dead on 0915 if anyone nterested. Otherwise meet at the campground down by the river for a 1015 departure. I will not wait past 1015.
As for heading upstream, I did my rock hopping last weekend, need some deep water and mud now , but will be keen to do this in the near future wth dedicated trucks that are set up for this kind of shit and dudes who know how to drive it too Al
