Yesterday the 'Takitimu Winch Challenge' was held and was very succesful. We had competitors come from as far as Christchurch with a Supercharged lexus powered and widened zuk SJ413 8). Donald's old widened Jeep CJ7 turned up from Timaru along with the green eyed monster that came down from up north (Leon McDonalds?) along with regulars Roger and Bruce.

2 classes, up to 33' and up to 36'. 10 SS's over the 1 day, plenty of mud & well done to organiser Al, and the caterers out at Tuatapere.

Winners of 33' class, Daniel Mattsen & can't remember
Winners of 36' class, Bruce Hughes & Jarod Gorrie.

Sorry no pic's

Is it only a one day comp?
If so they should make it longer and become part of the natinal series then you would get trucks from all over the country.
You guys need a comp down south, theres about 5 a year up north.
It must coast Rodger and Bruce a shit load every year coming up to the comps, time to put the shoe on the other foot :D

Yes it is only a one dayer but it was the 1st one - gotta start somewhere, and I'm positive it'll grow. Tommo and I went up to marshall at the kiwi last year (the Invercargill lads) to get an idea to help organise and then competed in this one.

The best part is Al the organiser has never been to a challenge and basically got the gist of things by dvd with help from Bruce.

The V8 zuk can certainly spin its wheels thats for sure, seemed to preform well, got 2nd in big boys class and the supercharger makes a nice whine.

The Green monster is the one that was on trade me - a SWB 383 powered Safari, basically fiberglass outer. When it was going it seemed to go well, heaps of grunt but it'll stop, sulk & refuse to start. Possibly being dedicated carb LPG might not have helped - not sure but it sure was temperamental.

At this stage I cannot see it being part of the series - We had realistic rules.

Thats a shame. As for the rules you need to hear both sides, but not going to get in to that right now.
There are plenty of new trucks up and coming and want to try and beat Bruce fear and square.
Flufees new wagon is a beast and has had a good result in its first comp (4th at norwest) with the first test drive on the way there. Bruce and Flufee are one each, and Flufee is keen for a show down and was disapointed when he hear Bruce wasnt going to be at norwest
It would be good to see Bruce at the next comp in 5 weeks every one knows hes the man to beat

Hi Dion,

sorry I wasn't clear, by the rules, I meant we allowed things like wire rope (not that anyone used it!), no requirement for 6 point cage - basically it was a fun event - rules to allow just about anyone with a winch and crash helmet to enter, not based on money.

Bruce's truck needs to be pulled down and a 6 point cage put in to compete, yes it would be good to see them go head to head.
