Hi I was wondering my 2f motor keeps heating up to over 250. I can hear the water boiling in the radiator. The fan is working and there is water in the radiator? What can it be? Has anyone got the same problems?

check your thermostat is operating, check your radiator isnt blocked, then check you havent got an air lock in the engine.check your water pump hasnt crapped itself.

waterpump = when cold and cooing system full(check bleeding cooling system to make sure its full)take your radiator cap off, start the engine, while looking into the radiator give the engine some revs and the level should change(go down)or just pull the bloody thing off and put a new one on, they only about 50 buks(just put a new one on mine not long ago)

thermostat = pull the top rad hose off the engine end and remove the thermostat which is under the neck that the hose just came off,pop the thermostat into the jug and boil it,thermostat should open when the water is just about to boil but as long as it opens full when the waters boiling then its ok, or pop it in a cup and pour boiling water on it to check.

if its ok check your radiator

radiator = remove it and take it into a radiator shop for profesional inspection, clean and flush,if in the waikato go see DION at COOMBS AND RENNIE in hamilton, hes the fkn man!. when you put it all back together there is a bleed point at the back of the motor behind the carby on the passenger side, remove this when your filling it up with water untill water comes out there then put the bung back in and keep filling till the radiator fills up.

if all that fails thenyou have engine trouble

i have a mint 2f that will be up for sale soon

All my 2f motors have run realy cool. I used to have problems with all my 40's splitting the top or bottom radiator tanks. They all did it so maybe an inherent problem perhaps?

Hozit.I had a look, I washed the radiator out and keeping it full now as well as the overflow can. It warms up as soon as I turn the motor off, I started today with pulling the body apart. I took the fan unit out and found another little radiator in there wgat I'll use to help keep the motor cool, I hope it works. I'll send some foto's of my project and can't wait to go bush bashing!

ahh now we have cracked it i think,

you said heats up when you turn it off. thats normal for any engine, just the old ones have mechanical senders and keep working even when the key is off, so when you turn off the engine the water stops moving round and therefore heats up more as its sitting in the one place. was quite normal for mine to go over 200 before cooling down once turned off but when running never went over 180.

but check everything anyway. get your radiator internaly flushed profesionally, makes a BIG diference.
