oil filter confusion

Post by jiggy »

hi,

never change oil filter on my mitsi pajero earlier. i did it yesterday and i got really2 confused. my old filter fitted was ryco z56 and the one that i got from supercheap auto is valvoline v05. v05 and z 56 has same width but v05 is in fact shorter by 2cm compared to z56. before i purchase this filter i did hav a look at that book hanging at the shop and does tell me to get v05 for my car. mine is mitsi pajero 93 3.0 v6. could someone help me here? is it okay to keep that filter on or should i change it quickly?
help mee help mee help mee, still young to this pajero.

Its quite common for filters to have visual differences, as long as the thread is the same and the rubber gasket seals where it should you'll have no probs.

if you look at ryco website, http://www.rycofilters.com.au it lists z142a for earlier paj and z79a for later.the 142 is shorter and fatter than the z79.Both will work they have the same thread. The genuine filters are the same, one short and fat and the other long and skinny.

As H2O said, If the thread is the same, and the round rubber seal ring is the same diameter then it should be ok to use - its just physically smaller... Go for it...

oh, and not sure if anyone mentioned it but don't post the same question in multiple forum areas - it just confuses things...

If you feel how heavy those supercheap filters are compared to a genuine filter they are very light, makes you wonder about the quality :(
