Toyota v's Mitsubishi

Am thinking about uprgrading my ute and have considerd these two vehicle's and I am wanting opinions and advice on the two.
The vihicle are either a new Toyota Hilux SR5 diesel double cab ot the new Mitsubishi Triton GLS diesel double cab??????????
Any websites with reviews or tests would be appreciated.
So any advice or opinions on these two vehicles would be appreciated.

hey mate, i happen to know two different people who have bought last years toyota and mitsi.

the guy with the yota loves it no complaints at all exept for the ugly factory wheels :roll:

which can be upgraded before you drive out the door for a bit extra coin.

the other guy who bought the mitsi is impressed and loves his vehicle but has a few gripes. stereo crapped out after 4 days, took mitsi 6 weeks of wanking him around to get the problem resolved. not a big issue and vehicles still new so no real mechanical problems yet........yet

both good trucks but i am going to say the toyo would be my prefrence, better service and better track record and better re-sale value. and i would never buy anything deisel that started with a 'M' just bad news

Toyota vs Mitzy. Opinions are like a#$eholes, we all have them. Most guys tend to sit in the toyota camp.

Get on the net and do some research (its a big purchase decision), based on what is needed for offroad use (I assume thats what you want this for)

Look for things as ramp over angles, aproach/depature angles, ground clearance and articulation (if you can find it).

Have a look on the forums, from guys who use these offroad, and ask how they have gone OFFROAD.

Hi mate,
I've got the petrol SR5 and couldn't be happier with it. Up'd the tyres to BFG's from 4WD bits. I took both for test drives (on road) and the Toyota I felt was a much better ride onroad. Off road I haven't had any problems - gone everywhere I've asked it to go (so far).
Service from Toyota team was good as well. Took it for it's 1st yr service after a weekend playing up at Muriwai and got it back clean as a whistle.... good on ya boys!

Ok the two I am considering are prices as follows:
Toyota Hilux, double cab,SR5, 4wd, manual, and 3ltr turbo $55,610
Mitsubishi Triton, double cab, GLS, 4wd, manual, 3.2ltr turbo $46990
These two madels are pretty much the same spec models but from different manufacturies.
Do people think the extra $9,000 is worth it? Opinions would be great.

personally i would go the toyota but mitsi is cheaper and i have only heard good things about there service dept as my boss has four l300's and a friend of mine has a slightly older triton. good luck.

What is it being used for? Does this spec include the diff lock in the mitsi?
The Hilux we have at work goes really well on road, but I wouldn't do much off road in it, far too low, but the Mitsi may be the same?

The Hilux will hold its value better, but then the Mitsi has a 9k headstart anyway.

I like to think the days of never buying a diesel starting with M are well past.

The Hilux running gear is not what it used to be once the IFS ones came out. However I cannot comment on the current model, the previous model (3.0 1KZ TD) I have seen a torsion bar break, a front diff break and when this was repalced with an ARB unit the front pinion input sheered off and left the driveshaft on the ground. This was all done by a very unagressive driver.

At the end of the day it is likely to come down to what you make of the dealer and rememeber if one toyota or mitsi dealer is hopeless then buy from another one who is helpful - they will be more than happy to take you money.

Seems from people opinions there isnt much in it. you could always take that 9k and buy a well setup diesel 4wd to go on the hard 4wd trips and have heaps of fun and still have the mitsi :wink:

I'd be thinking pretty hard about what an extra $9K gets you before cashing out.

Thats alot of coin for a very similar vehicle with what is just essentially a better marketing department behind it...

Only downside I can see to the Triton is the hideous styling!! IMHO! :lol:

Any other utes being considered? The Navara ST-X while also fairly pricey (not as much as the Hilux) is a nice wagon.

So the decision is, for the same amount of money....

Option A - Toyota SR5

Option B - Mitzy Trition, 2nd set of rims with extreme trekers, suspension lift, body lift, arb lockers, front and rear bars, winch, snorkel, certification and a recovery kit.

Hmm, hard decision

A few years ago when I was swinging spanners I worked in a Mitsi dealership then a Toyota dealership - could I, without a doubt say that one was streets ahead of the other ( $9k ahead?) - No.

Toyota has this premium price attached to it, why, I'm not sure but you will probably get more for it when you trade or sell it. Certainly that extra price (and the styling) put me off the New Lux when I bought my new ute 18mts ago (Rodeo, which I'm happy with) and they were both made in big sheds down the road from each other in Thailand at the time (so why the big price difference

)

At the time I was deciding, a new Hilux didn't have a lap/shouder belt for the centre rear passenger which was abit of a cockup (they may have remedied it by now) Good luck. And a little tip from an ex salesman work the deal out in the last few days of the month, if the dealer or salesman has had a slow month they'll be keener to do the best deal to bring the sales numbers up - don't tell anyone else :wink:

If the latter, spend the extra, cos of the HUGE range of after-market stuff that I dont think Mitsi have.

I second the "example please"
I dont know of one item that you can't get for a mitzy that you can for a toyota.

I do agree that we need to know what the truck is for, hard yaka or "mall cruzing". I guess I am a bit of a penny pincher, save the 9G, both come with 3year lots of K waranties, so anything that needs attention will get attention.

And when it comes to resale time, there may be 4-5K diference in what you can get for the Mitzy, so you are still 5K better off

Exactly what HUGE range of aftermarket gear for going bush do Toyota offer over Mitsi?

Most of the gear I see on Toyotas that go bush doesn't come from Toyota.
The Mitsi also has the factory diff lock available, but I can't remember Toyota offering this?

At those prices you wouldnt be tacking it off road, all though I just paid 20g for an 89 safari to go bush bashing.
As a michanic I sugest the toymota as mitsi make the worst autos money can buy and there electrical bits play up heaps, but this is only going by older atempts to make a car. At this stage both are new and the faults havent been found yet and toyota have mad lemons inthe past

I will be using the vehicle around the farm occasionaly, but I will be using it as my daily driver. Other activities I will be using it for would be hunting and fishing, some 4wd trips and transporting dirt bikes to and from events.

I would personally save 9k and go for the Mitsi.
Will do everything the Hilux will, and will save you a lot of $$$.

I guess deck length may also come into it if you intend to have the bikes on the back if not using a trailer?

I'd go to your local dealers and ask to take each model out over a weekend, that may decide it for you.

One thing you could try is tell the toyota dealer that unless he drops his price you are going straight to the mitsi dealer and paying cash.
