what gear box?

kind of a dumb question but how can i tell what gear box have in my 85 surf?
If it's a beam axle it will most probably have a g52, these boxes have a remote mounted trasfer case stick in the gearbox as well (both levers coming out of top of gearbox.
The other common box is a W56 from 86-88 IFS 2 door manual surfs, it has the transfer case change stick coming directly out of the top of the transfer case (1 stick from gear box, 1 from transfer case)
