Post whoring

All those that have undergone a campaign of post whoring to get your post count up have created a situation where there have been complaints and now something must be done about it
First off, anyone using 7 or so posts to post their message will get their post count halved, and then halved again (yes turoa this is aimed at you! )
I am looking into how i can remove all offtopic posts from your total post count

Why not just get rid of post counts all together?
The "Hard Yakka" or "Newbie" already gives you an idea who has contributed to the forum. Maybe chuck in a few more levels if there is a need to see who posts alot.
e.g.
post whore for Turoa, MrO and anyone with an average of over 4 post a day

I wasn't going to say anything but since you have bought the subject up MIKE . ------ I have kept off the forum lately and sometimes have a look with out signing on, my complaint is the amount of absolute nothing that is beeing writen on here lately and it seams to be only a few who have got nothing to contribute and very little to say.
I notice that a few of the good regular contributors have been also conspicuous by there absence,---- I wonder why?.
I know that a forum is a chance to be herd , but lets keep it sensible and on track, there is a lot of knowledge avalible on this site so lets not drive all this knowledge away. ( thanks I feel better now that I have said it ).

I'm only replying to up my post count,

but I agree with Smokey... the amount of drivel that comes out of this forum at times is astounding...
Make the off-topic areas not count, and make the punishment for dribbling in the tech areas a sound pirate-style beating of Wenzel proportions... thats how Pirate works, and it does work.

Fair enough about not making the offtopic posts count. Sorry about posting last night, someone was having me on about post counts last night

Maybe it's better if we have no post count at all like Doddzee said???

Whats the point of not including off topic in post counts?
If the posts are counted, count them all, if not, exclude them all.
Hate to say it but while there is rubbish on here at times, no one forces me to read it, if it doesn't interest me, then too bad for me.

But so many really good threads get ruined by post whoring..... There are a number of threads on here with very useful and valuable information then stuck in the middle is a page of drivel.
Tech sections are for tech - leave the drivel to off topic.

Yeah, because I can't see what the fuss is about, there's no prize for having the most posts, and the counter shows the "number of posts" on the forum, not the "number of posts others feel should be counted"

Its better than your reflectoporn one was
Ummm my 10 cents, yeah there is a bit of frivolity on the forums but that is what I like about ORE, as long as we keep it to the relevant sections yeah fine, perhaps we need an absolute shit area
Mr O needs his own "special" section....

I have got to agree with Glen,
Some tech topics have very useful information burried in a lot of stuff that would be more at home in OFF TOPIC
Is there any way of having a header asking posters to tech topics if the post is relevent and on topic ??
Instead of thread Hijacking how 'bout you start a thread in off Topic and just post a link in the topic that it applies too ??
This would allow people reading the topic and get the info and go to the off topic if they choose.
What do people think ???

Are we talking about post whoring ie deliberate meaningless posts to get post numbers up, or hijacking?
These are 2 different things aren't they, in which case the people posting against hijacking are hijacking this very topic
Seriously, what are we on about here, hijacking threads or not

just tickin up the numbers, but both can be irritating..
just the single word posts and the random 'nothings' posts me thinks...
i think that some have a whole lot to say but nothing to ad.

I think Mike, maybe you should just remove post counts, and expand the decriptors further, so we just get to see the members name, and then Bush Crasher etc. Maybe you could police things further, and ban people for 2 to 3 weeks at a time as punishment? Bags be on the jury :sniper: let me at em!!

Umm.....don't you think this is a bit harsh?...it seems more people here are more concerned with thread jacking rather than actual thread post counts.
If you get rid of the thread post counter we don't have a problem as people won't make multiple thread posts anymore becuase there is nothing to prove???
The main problem has seemed to THREAD JACK this very thread and it's thread jacking

off-topic drivel if not for tech posts it's for the off-topic section and people just need to remember that, sure every once and awhile people will thread jack by accident but that happens and we just need to get over it.
Here is a perfect example, my suzuki build up:
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/modules ... sc&start=0
That was a purely tech thread and a good one for new vitara owners to look at to modd cheaply there vitara, it was ruined by drivel. Maybe mike can you make my LR modding thread an off-topic thread??? I fear the same is happening to that one to

could you also go through it and delete any bull shit posts??? like ones talking about insurance etc
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/modules ... 34&start=0
If people continously thread jack thread they need to have a PM sent to them by Mike warning them and the next time they will have there membership suspended for a period of time??? maybe a week??
my 0.00002 cents

you also have to remember mike has a job and a life and cant spend all his time telling people off for being naughty..... maby people should just stop poasting shit. if you want to just hassel you m8 about how your truck is better then pm him or even better go and see him and have a chat. a good example is a wellington thread about going on a trip on the weekend and before they even go there is 8 or 9 pages of crap. I dont think it should be up to mike. If someone is not posting helpful stuff then whoever is annoyed by it should just tell them to stop.
