8274

Post by Rangerat »

Hi all

Got a question for those that may have pulled a Warn 8274 apart. (or can check on their one).

When assembled, how much "play" has the brake assembly got?
I have just put my 8274 together (got it cheap, but completely pulled apart) followed the picture in the Warn parts book, all parts there and, (I think) in the right place, but, there is a lot of play in the brake assembly. eg the centre (bit with the teeth?) is able to move sideways quite a lot. Around 3-4mm play. Is this normal? Still seems too loose even with the dog gear full out. eg brake position.
I can't get to an 8274 to check at the moment.
Thoughts/ideas?

Cheers

Hey Rat,

Not sure of the exact play - but I have to say our new one had a lot of play straight off the shelf. I have watched plenty of winch challenges and I have always been alarmed by just how much play there is in the brake - its a shocker really - they always look like they are about to fly off.

Warns aren not exactly built to very high standards - which is why we mod then aye...

So in summation:
I would estimate the play in our brand new one to have been close to the 3-4mm that you are experiencing.
Warn quality = shit.

That should do me.
