Will a Toyota winch work???????

Just out of interest, is it possibe to easily adapt a Toyota Pto winch to fit a Safari?
Much more toyota winches available out there............

Dont bother they run a 4mm shear pin and you will break it all the time. Stick with the nissan.

Strictly speaking, yes you can. You just wont be able to use the winch mounting points on a factory Nissan winch bar though. I've also seen a Nissan PTO winch on a Toyota FRP top Landcruiser, so they swap back the other way easy enough too.
Toyota PTO's do seem to be alot easier to come by on TradeMe etc compared to the Nissan ones.

I was under the impression (maybe false) that the Toyota PTO was less likely to break a drum or through the worm drive into the mud. Someone please correct me???

Think the majority of Toyota PTO's are cast iron/steel housings as opposed to Nissans cast alloy housings.
That would mean the Toyota housings are potentially stronger and less likely to spit them into the mud.

i have heard a rumor that the alloy safari winches sometimes let the worm drive screw themselves out of the housing
i also heard that some of the winch challenge guys running safaris with a PTO winch use toyota winches to get around that issue
but don´t quote me on that

So far there is one Nissan comp truck (Kev and Troy) running a Toyota PTO...simply because they could get a cheaper supply of them than the Nissan ones.
If you load it up enough (i.e don't run a shear pin), the gear housing on Toyota PTO will still let go as the worm drive goes out the bottom of it.
