cheap vitara lift

finally got my springs sorted in my scudo ,put c33 laurel rear springs in back and vn commodore rear springs in front got 2inches of lift in front and back and still nice and soft so i have lost no compression.laurel springs are perfect fit, holden ones are slightly bigger overall diameter
but no problems . i will put pics on soon. manual hubs to go on this week as blew a hub last weekend.

hey Vaughan, what shockies are you running on the rear? I see Smurf on here has some Commodore rear shocks for sale cheap. They go good in the Scudo, give extra rear end articulation. I think they need to be suitable for VN/VP.

hi vando im running bmw 320i rear shocks in the rear, the std springs used to fall out but now they are sweet with the laurel springs. cheers vaughan

just put some LWB vitara spring in mine, with the front strut tops fliped and some ea falcon shocks, in the back.


you will need to chop the ends off the lower eyes cause they are too wide, the will only give you about 30mm extra down, but with the strut flip and LWB springs I picked up about 2 or 3 inches extra travel plus the 2 inch's or so ride height 8)

the springs set me back $150 from te puke parts world with everything included, I can't tell you how much the shocks cost me, cause it cheaper than trade prices.

old man emu front shocks are next on the list as is a
6 point from calmini ($850)
the the exhaust again from calmini ($650)
and the rear locker again from calmini ($450)

650 for a exhaust is a bit steep isnt it? . how much lift did you gain at front with the lwb springs , i bought a whole lwb with no motor or box for 100 bucks off trade me so i was curious to try front springs on mine compared to commodore ones, it was that camo gem from mudbits but gave me spare diffs for mine and chassis and body for new toy once shortened a bit. have a few spare bits if you need , cheers

I got about 2 inches,
$650 isnt too bad, you get the extractors and muffler and all the pipe, thats also including freight.

considering you can't get extractors for under $250 normally.

unless you have some 8valve ones laying about?

i will get back to you on the extractors on monday , i have a contact and will see how much. i got suzuki sport ones brought back from jap land by a mate for mine but probaly no better than coby ones, will pm you next week.cheers

Have done as spanky said and put c33 laurel springs in rear + vk wagon shocks and used vl commy springs in front and did a strut top flip on the escudo.
Also put some 30 inch tires on and gained some good ground clearance.
Everything seems to be sweet as so far.
Will put up some pics soon.

What shocks did you use in the rear? Standard or something else?

Strut flip .
On the front of the vitara the shocks do not make full compression by about 2 " I believe . The top of the strut is bolted to the mount by a hat setion plate . By flipping the plate the top mount of the strut ( shock ) is moved down about 35mm . This allows more down travel and does not affect up travel as the strut never bottomed out .

Hope that makes sence , otherwise just come around and look at one done in the shed :)

the strut flip is a good way of getting a bit more movement for free and as rotazuk says it doesnt affect the compression, you can see in these photos if you look at the front how much travel you gain ,would look better if i had front guards. as it sits now commodore vn rear springs in front with std 5dr struts and back is c33 laurel springs with aftermarket commodore air shocks , and no sway bar, and you could just about get sea sick on a windy road it moves so much but is great off road

if you go much higher in the front you will start breaking cvs, i am trying a few different springs in the front now as with the winch and bar i have put about 50kgs right on the nose, cheers

have just put some ea falcon front coils in the front of scudo ,took 2.5 coils off first. they fit better than commodore and are a bit firmer but still nice and flexy,guess i will see how they handle this weekend at the speed trials.

hi there zeuszuki, the ea springs are really good but i am putting in a pair unchopped to get even more clearence and then i will get some better pics, i dont know how much i gained in height but mine has a bit of weight right on the front and now you dont notice it being lower than the back like it used too

hey do you know how much lift these have given you in the front overall? how do you get on with the cv's? cos i had about 75mm at one stage and did two cv's so lowered it back down a little...

The rear is real easy...

The front is a pain the first time but gets easier and much quicker in subsequent times...
Spanky probably has a better way of doing it but i found it really fiddly once i had undone the 3 bolts on the ball joint bracket and was trying to clear it from the lower arm..

rear ones are easy remove the shocks & use spring compresers (spelling) front are a little harder but the same prinsable I found the commodore ones are to big & someone has said use honda accord but not sure what year

hi there guys i seen you have lifted the front of your suzuki with commy vn rear springs i have a suzuki 1991 escudo and i am wanting to do the the same just wanting to know what year vn was it and will they fit in mine with no hitchs thanks

as far as i know just bout any old commy has the same springs the sw ones have 1 extra coil tho, yeah front ones are a dam pain

One way to fix the camber is to file the top bolt holes on your front shocks in (towards the engine) You can get a wheel alingment *spelling but if you want to do it on the cheap thats the way to go.

Still needs abit of work.
Will try get the pics of it swimming.
ECU got soaked and kept filling cylinders with fuel some how causing them to hydrolock.
All good once ecu dried out.

been mucking around some more and tryed it on one of my ramps at work, now has ea falcon with 2 1/4 coils cut off no sway bar ,still running laurel rear springs and commodore air shocks.made a spacer for the top mount on the rear diff which i will try tomorrow and see if that helps in the back ,the ramp is 620mm high .
