tracks round dunas

am in dunas for the week and was wondering if there were any wee tracks close to town where i could go for a wee play.

only been there once with a mate that took me, all i can remember was that is is the "back road", also know of a track that is close to the commercial area on the southern end of town not far south of fully equipped, they were not that friendly last time i went in there. that track is very cool and challangeing

thats what im looking for. cheers. man that google map site is great. whats the track like? i have a surf on 33's with twin lokkas could i go alone (no winch - good shovel). looks ok from the satalite on the map.

Hi Pete, I would recommend doing it with someone else for the just in case. We went up it a couple of years back in the 24 hr challenge and drove it all but did a good bit of shovel work, mostly to get the wheels out of the ruts. Its about 2 km long and can take hours, last time it was quite overgrown with gorse.

Abbotshill can be a bit of a sill basher I hear. I haven't been there for years, but indeed last time we crushed the sill of a Pajero there in the ruts.

There's also a track from Wingatui up the hill, and the Karati on the Peninsula, both of which are about to be closed by the Council if they haven't already been. :(

that hill must be the 1 we did, hilux 35 simex twin lockers etc... kept getting stuck all the time

yea that trip on sunday looks a wee bit far away for the amount of gas money i have lol. anybody keen for a wee look over that hill track maby on saturday. give me a pm or a text 0274738362

did the abotts hill road the other day the gorse has been partly cleard so you can keep out of the ruts, friends hill road is closed off but the karitai is still going strong gets interesting when wet, be keen to join in for a bit of a play on sat, wot times we talking and feel free to join in on the trip on sunday i'm the 1 trying to gather a few of us together
