1Kz power loss

Post by fweddy »

My dad has a 3.0L turbo diesel in a prado and hiace. The hiace recently did its head and has since been replaced, but he's noticing a drop in performance. I haven't driven it much (well not without passengers any way) since but would also say there seems to be a bit less of the old go (those vans empty with that engine are fun).

Any ideas what might be up? Someone suggested the timing, Its been back to the mechanic but dad's just picked it up now, apparently nothing was wrong, appreciate any comments...

Van and fun Hmmmmm.

Power loss on these is either fuel or boost, having just done the head I would suspect one of the turbo pipes from the turbo to the manafold is loose allowing boost pressure to escape.

check these and see what happen's also check to see the wastegate actuator is closing fully I have seen a turbo where the actuator to open and close the turbo wastegate did not fully close (the arm and linkage to the vacuum assy on the side of the turbo)

sorry I know what I am on about hope this helps I really think the first (boost leak) is the issue

Just an update here (hate it when you find a post that is right where you are at but the outcome was not posted).

Turned out that a hose had split and a sensor was not sensing that it had to boost, so you were pretty much right on Steve! Thanks

Goes like the rocket it should be again!
