Sailed over with Damian on Wed & took the scenic route over the porika:
On Thursday Damian took us down to his favourite picnic spot just out of Reefton for a bit of a shakedown:
Met up with Karam from Invercargil Fri night & got scrutinised. Karam's truck developed some bad noises Sat am so he was out before he even started, we carried on. Had a bit of a snarlup with my winch on the 1st stage & then staked a tyre. Fixed all that. The 2nd stage I hit a hill a bit quick & fell on me side, broke a side window, & put in a few dents, broke the winchrope again & bent a front radius arm too:
She's all servicable again now so bring on tomorrow.
Cheers
Clint

Hay there Clint the toyota has bigger sides than the old suzuki, and those new markings on the side are the same shape but bigger to the ones you put in your old truck . Should have fitted the rest of the guarding pac before heading south , We had time hahahah

Just keep it on its wheels . Its realy hard to make the new steel work follow the dents . Good stuff keep the photos cumming . Klembo

Hey Clint, so you broke the winch rope more than once. I'm sure theres a shop in Taupo where you get some replacement at a reasonable price, aye Klem.
Looks like you been having way too much fun.
Taupo team next year, bring it on.

looks like you had more fun than me, the problem is... a dent in my oil sump which is right under the oil pick up, still allowed oil pressure at low rpm so i have been told and at high rpm there was no pressure which would not wreck the motor straight away but take about 30 to 50 k's to rear it,s ugly head, so the motor is toast, getting a new 1 through my brother in laws,s contacts up your way and will be here in 5 weeks, more of an inconvenience than anything else, the worst part was letting the team down, i was not a nice person to talk to on saturday but am over it now, cheers karam and donna, changing the snorkel, turning the manifold mack around and a scoop on the roof...

Tell me about it, Klem had a good one on the shelf I could have taken for a spare, I thought nah, there won't be much winching anyway... Doh! A Taupo team would be awesome, The Nelson boys might be taking a break next year, but hopefully they'll be helping the Blenheim guys lay on a similar event, wich makes it even easier & clower for us northerners.
I couldn't tell ya where that track is Smurf, I was just following Damian.
We got a lot more driving in on Sunday & had heaps of fun untill the back diff shat itself. We had to take the diff out & remove the crownwheel so we were mobile in front wheel drive. Then it was beers & dinner, congrats to the Blenheim boys on getting 1st, & well done the Nelson club for laying on a great event.
Monday it was off to the wreckers in Nelson for a new diff, thanks Sav for putting us onto the cheap one! Scotty had a few parts lying around & also offered the use of the hoist at his work so we stopped in there to chuck in the new diff & a new radius arm. We left there loaded down with parts, including some good side windows to fix the damage & the new diff seems better than the old one ever was. Huge thanks to Scotty for all that
Tuesday we rolled out over the Maungatapu track & had an uneventful trip home.
Cheers
Clint

Oddly enough....took the dog for a walk up there the other day while is was bucketing down (and had been all night).
The track looked superb
Rivers running down it totally obscurring the depth of the ruts and the crap underneath.
Great photos :thumright:
