Chch Anzac Day Fundraiser, Banks Pen
Chch Anzac Day Fundraiser, Banks Pen
Right, an idea was bought up that we could/should do a charity/fundraiser event for the Anzac's.
All proceeds will be given to the Rsa/Anzac appeal (if thats the right word)
The trip that I have planned is more of a scenic ramble than a 4x4 drive, so will be suit able for all ages groups, vehicles and families.
There MAY be a slight tricky section that may require some assistance, but wont be hard (gravel section along beach). There is a way round this if its too tricky, so dont stress.
As posted in the Welly post, they think we can out do them, I KNOW we can, so guys, show your support and come along.
Late'ish leaving time to allow those that want to go to dawn parade can.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The plan:
Meeting place: Outside Princess Margaret Hospital
When: 9:45am Wed (Anzac Day)
Leaving: 10.00 am
Cost; $20 donation, but please dont feel you cant come if you cant cover that, any donation will be accepted. (this is per vehicle)
Vehicle equipment: No special requirements, but those without rated tow hooks will not be allowed on the beach section if it is soft.
Please bring: Donation, fun pants, prs radio, lunch (if not buying), criket bat and balls etc, and a pen!
We will head up and over the port hills, Turning right and traveling along the top of the hills though to Gebbies pass, turn left, and head through to Charteris bay.
Just before Diamond harbour, we will turn off and head overland through Bay View Road, coming out in Purau Bay, through Purau Port Levy Road to Port Levy
On from there we will go through Port Levy Pigeon Bay road to Pigeon bay, we will then head through to Duvauchelle's via Pipers Valley Road.
This will be our lunch point, hopefully approx 12:30-1pm.
I will check to see if the pub will be open, but if someone has a bbq that we can take, that will make it all the better also.
This can also be a meeting, or leaving point for people if they need to.
The afternoons adventure takes us back to Chch. After leaving Duv we will head around Onawe Flat road. Then out to French Farm and Wainui.
We will head over the hills via Jubille Road and Bossu Road, through to Birdlings flat. If it is passable, we will head down the gravel pea shingle beach to bridlings flat (only a few hundred meters) ((this is dependant on beach conditions)) There is an ulternative route via roads if required.
This is the end of 90% of the trek. We head along SH75 to Motukarara Junction where we will once again head off the seal. We will do a 5 km section of paper road, along Ahuriri road. (Ken Siblys book 1 covers this)
This will conclude the trek, but will bring us out close to Taipatu where we can stop at the pub if required for a chat.
Eta back to town, 3:30pm

Hope you guys have a good trip, I know you will like the scenery as i've been on just about all the roads on the Banks Peninsula at one time or other with work.
Have a contact or two at work who know most of the landowners over there too, who I will ask if there is any chance of a drive off road or two sometime in the future.

Was a good trip and yes i did get stuck in the pea shingle but hey it was worth it by the time the crowd of 20-25 odd people stood around and watched. Would have raised a bit more money if petrol didn't burn a hole in my wallet. Petrol station i topped up at were charging $1.83 a ltire for 95
Apart from petrol was a good trip and hope to do another again soon.
