I broke my shear pin on my pto off my 70 series Landcruiser trying to winch petemcc out. Have a spare replacement pin, but I cant figure out how to get the old one out? Should I get a punch and remove it that way or does it have a thread? Do I have to dissassemble it and remove the pin that way? The new pin has a thread for half of the pin.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Had a quick look at the one sitting on the floor of my shed, its not easy looking down a 4mm hole but it dosent seem to be threaded

I just did the one on the little womens Safari cause she broke it trying to winch me out. Just punch it out then put a bolt back through it will be easyer to replace then in the bush or mud

The sheer pin is designed to be the week point so you dont break cables etc. I wouldnt put a bolt in unless you knew what load it would break at.
Better to break the odd shear pin than anything else!

I would not use a high tensile bolt just a old crap bolt, done it before with no probs if anything they seem to break easyer

I have installed a grade 8.8 bolt in the pto box end and a 4.6 in the winch end on my Patrol. The theory is the winch end will shear first (easy to change). I did shear the pto end one time when I was running proper shear pins. Very hard messy job to replace in the middle of a mucky tack. Just my 2c worth.
