Suspension Lift for SWB Prado

Post by Kent »

My mate just bought himself a 1991 Toyota SWB Prado. It's got coils all the way round and he was wondering what is the easiest/cheapest way to lift it and what would be a sensible lift to do, he would like at least 2inchs. So yea any ideas on what is the best way to go about it would be greatly appreciated.

Sweet so that leads to my next question for everyone out there, Is this a good way to go for your lift if you are on a limited budget. Are they safe, do they do the job, and will they last the distance.

nah no luck yet, lol. You got any suggestions for him of what route to take.

Obviously extended coils and new shocks r the way to go, but on a budget, of i dont know exactly how much, but a modest one, what do you think is the best way to go???

He wants to buy new shocks soon neway, ranchos, is there a way of getting coils stretched or sumin, lol, i dunno much about coils. Im a leafy.

You would be better off putting in coil spacers rather than heating and stretching the spring.
I have run Rancho shocks before which were ok, but much happier with my Tough Dogs.
Ranchos are well known for having the eyes break off, but mine were ok.

I'd look at putting something on HP if possible, and get the whole lot.

Any idea what the standard laden gap is between the rear axle and the stops? currently on mine I have 80mm of movement, with Cobra Heavy Duty Springs and Monroe 4x4 Adventurer Shockies. If its quite a bit of factory I might just install the same in the front (About $450 cost)

Genie4x4.com (in NZ) has coil spacers, $40each. They are 30mm.
Lovell springs will set you back $260 a pair for most 4X4s.
TJM's are $300
Talk to fully equipped about what they would recommend from their range of TJM stuff, then do some ringing around to see if you can get it cheaper using the same spec stuff, just from a different brand.

For my SWB Safari they recommended LWB coils front and rear. I could save $80 Going with the Lovells, which are the same spec as TJM coils.
That would mean my transfercase spacers would only cost me $33 instead of $113.

Just ring AFWL in Auckland for shocks, their number is in the back of most of last years NZ4wd mag's. Rancho RS5000 shocks $95 each and free shipping. He will match the shocks up to your lift height.
