Stuffed Bearings

My front wheel bearings in my safari are non existant anymore... according to an expert it was a result of water getting in from river crossings etc... does anyone know how i might prevent this in the future?

the truck hand book tells you to pulla bolt out of the bottom swival cap to let the water out arfter water crossing plus keep packed with grease

also use marine grease wherever you can, bit more expensive, but it doesn't break down in water.
