i have a really annoying oil leak in my 1989 bighorn and its getting worse as the weeks go by. i just cant identify where it is comming from, what are the usual causes any ideas? as you are looking into the engine bay from the front of the truck its on the right side(diesel pump side).

Go buy a $5 can of de greaser, a telescopic mirror and get a torch or worklight. Supercheap auto would be cheapest.

Clean all the crap off the side of engine, (could make the leak worse) spray the whole can in there right around offending area, leave it for a few minutes to eat the grease then hose it off.

Then get your light and mirror and have a good look in there, if its not leaking straight away just wait awhile or until the next day and have another look.

Good luck.

can't remember where it is on the 2.8, but have a look for the oil pressure sender - these can be a common source of leaks on many motors... the bodies on them crack and oil weeps out... replace the sender and hey-presto!

It might not be it, but its just a thought...

thanks but!!

took the protection plates off the bottom of the truck and degreased :(

i now dont think it is oil  it looks like diesel is leaking from the pump running down the engine, cleaning as it goes and when it drips onto my lovely new driveway looks like engine oil.

the engine runs really well but have noticed more fuel usage and also some days she smokes real bad (black) and other times clear as???

so then does this meen a new/recon pump and big dollar???
