Costs for ORE Forum Training days

It has been mentioned in the recent thread linked below, that a charge of $5.00 will apply to non ORE Association members.

Don't get me wrong, I know every thing these days costs, but how about the old one that says the best things are free :?:

I think that rather than trying to overly govern things, education should be the most important part of the focus to improve the image, and habits of our fellow current and potential four wheel drivers.

I was present at the last training day on the Waipara River, it was in fact my first outing with the ORE Forum family, and I found it a huge benefit to my understanding of not only the skills, but the need to follow etiquette.

My point and the reason for the poll is to gauge if others may be put off participating in these very worth while events, due to a cost being charged, as they are not associated to a club.

I know very well that there is a need for a governing body with most things, in today's society, so there is a voice for all the members, but I would hope that their brief is to represent the majorities wishes.

If we are as committed to preserving our pass time, as I think most are, can we get back to basics and educate as many as we can, by making it easy to join in.

As always this is my opinion only, and as Mike says so regularly, that's what the ORE forums for :!:

At the end of the day, 5 bucks for a feed AND training......

You'd be silly to complain at those prices.....

The cost has nothing to do with making any money. For public liability insurance for non members of the association who are guests on the training day there must be a fee paid (a day membership) otherwise there is no insurance and potentially the organiser can be hauled over the coals if something were to happen, I'm sorry but we are not prepared to let this happen!. When the association (like any club) runs a training day, this is covered by belonging to the new zealand four wheel drive association.

If people are put off with a $5 fee for instruction in how to use their 4wd safely, then I would hate to see their reaction when they fill their tanks up at the servo!

You can vote all you want but if you don't front up with the day membership fee then we are not covered and you don't attend as simple as that. If you organise a training and something happens, you will be taken to court by the police for negligence (look at the police and the organiser of the bike race where that lady was killed).

It needs to be kept in perspective Billy that the proposed training day is not an ORE Forum activity; rather, an Association commitment to it's members. It is due the Association's concientious social responsibility to the wider 4wd community that this has been opened to non-association members, and expense kept to a break-even minimum. How many other 4wd clubs in Canterbury make that level of commitment to their wider peers?!

I may not have worded things exactly right, don't get me wrong I have no problem with paying the $5 :!:

What I am trying to do is look at it through the eyes of the beginner/newbie to the forum. Are they more likely to put off by politics and costs as these are the very people we most need to educate.

The only politics seem to stem from members of the forum who seem to have an agenda against the formation of the association. There are none in the association at all..........very strange  Therefore through logic reasoning they would be the political instigators, get the the gun Jethro :sniper:

Absouletly f*&$@#$ none

Don't get me wrong bro but our recreation is rife with politics and its people in the Association that are trying to keep it open for dudes like yourselves that do not want to be apart of a club/assocation for whatever reasons.

I know what you are trying to do, and am grateful :!:

Just think it best to stick to KEEP IT SIMPLE, so those who most need educating get it

That has pretty much been a constant saying within the association, just ask any of the members  As for a $5 cover our butt fee instead of a say $75 fee some clubs charge I would say thats keeping it pretty simple  And if you think that would put the people that need educating off then seriously I think they have bigger problems to deal with, like how to afford their 4wd in the first place 8)

I'm an Association member and would happily pay $20 for a day to learn stuff in a safe environment. :)

Damn - access into some areas is waayy more than this alone. Try getting through Black Forest for example - without coughing up for the gate key - per vehicle. (That bit really sucks & is obviously a money maker - wonder if its declared to IRD by the landowner on these properties??)

If people are put off by a miserable $5 - which buys 5/8's of Sweet FA - imagine their reactions when they break something.

 An alternative for them could be doing a 4x4 Course with NZQA Standards - until they see the astronomical costs of those courses. For these you need Amex Gold Cards or similar (unless work pays for it of course - if you are lucky enough to work for places like Meridian, Alstom etc)

My thoughts anyway. AND... if there's food included - that is a big bone-ass :D

I wouldn't have a problem paying a fiver, even a bit more to cover costs and effort put in by those involved to teach the 'off road virgins' like myself the basics.

Would much rather learn from someone elses experiences than possible expensive self taught experience. (In saying that theres only so much you can be shown/told :))

I'm flat hunting at the moment so weekends are gold but I'd say I will be there.
