Shock Value

Abit of help please, I've go a yn60 surf which I've just got some new front shocks for (cheers ruf_zuki), problem is that fully shortened they've got almost no travel, i plan to extend the shock tower upward as much as possible, but, and here's my question, how much shock travel should I aim for?

as much as possible without going stupid, i think 12 inches travel is a good mark to aim for ?
