Snatch straps?

I am wanting to purchase a new snatch strap.
So I am wanting opinion on what ones are best or better than others and why?
Aslo what lenght do you guy's reccomend(9m,12m,15m?)?

I use snatchmaster straps, 2x 9m and 1x 6m. They seem to last ok and I've never broken one so far. I definately wouldnt go buying any cheap, unrated or dubious pedigree straps.

Some people prefer ropes over straps, ropes either stretch a little more or its just the holden vs ford (or is that nissan vs toyota) argument?

straps are a lot easier and compact to store in a vehicle than a rope. Lengths just come down to your application, short straps tight bush stuff and f***ing great long ones for somebody swampped way down at the low tide mark or wide river where you dont want to get too close and compromise truck :wink:

hi i have a black rat 8000kg 9m and have given sum awfuly stuck toyotas some good pulls, it aparently has a thread thru it that stats to show when the snatchy has been overloaded??? others may no more about how reliable that is.

I have both ropes and straps but here in CHCH we do play in rivers a bit so the rope is better in the water (less drag hooking it up)

as for length I have about 2 at 9m (straps) and 1 rope about the same
I also have a longer rope and you can link them to extend the length just put a small ish stick in the loop so you can get it apart never link them with shackles as they become projectiles if anything goes wrong.

Apart from that the better strap you buy the longer it will last and keep the gear clean, wash it if you get it muddy and don't leave them in the sun and it wil last a long time, some don't go fbrittle in the sun but not worth finding out mine do :wink:

Ok just another question I see someone mentioned snatch ropes???

Snatch straps are flat and better to store, ropes also tend not to store as much energy but are easier in water, Also you will need a shovel some times.

E.G.

A strap will help a hilux pull a whale (Oops safari) :twisted:

out of the mud better than a rope, but in this situation you are better to either bury the safari (shovel)

or get a landcruiser that went through the hole to pull it out :twisted:

the energy stored in the strap will help a lighter 4x4 move a heavier one but as with anything once momentum is moving again they will drive a bit more of it.

I suspect there may be coments on the example but we will see

i got caught out a bit when i bought my strap
i went to repco snd they had maxitrac and bushranger strops the later being the more expensive one i went with that
then i saw that pic with the results and i was a little upset could have saved me some money and got a better strop the usual story aye always find a better deal 2 days after you actually buy something
