info on 1986 ralliart pajero

hey i have a 1986 Pajero short wheel base ralliart model. i was just wondering if any one knows any thing about these models. I'm planning to cut the roof off and and fit a roll cage. All the pillars and the roof are full of rust and every time i knock on them rust falls down. I was just wondering if there is any thing extra special about these models. Should i go all out and get it all ready for trials or restore it to more of a original?

it has the 2.5 diesel turbo.
