where to get an oxygen sensor?

Post by Thrupp »

have been reading on the ausi surf website that lots of guys have replaced the oxygen sensors on their 3vze engines and it has smoothed the engines out and increased fuel economy. they also said that the factory ones are good for about 100 000ks mine has done alot more than that an i doubt it has been changed more than once so i was thinking of changing it. where in chch would you go to get an oxygen sensor at a good price?

Cheers Pete

Go genuine Toyota cause they give out the right pulse. In most cases aftermarket Oxygen senser send out an incorrect pulse witch will fool the ecu and your engine check light will come on

You think thats expensive... I just got mine replaced as it was lazy (not lazy enough to throw a code) and its a Bosch unit about $150. Jeep wanted $285 + GST for OEM unit.

My fuel economy has nearly doubled since the change.

Definitely, I have saved about 40 dollars worth of gas on the full gas tank last week. Another 4 or 5 tanks and the thing has paid for itslef.

Besides, the engine now revs more smoothly as well.

your engine only uses the EGO senson on idle and cruise

"When an internal combustion engine is under high load (such as when using wide-open throttle) the oxygen sensor no longer operates, and the engine automatically enriches the mixture to both increase power and protect the engine. Any modifications to the oxygen sensor will be ignored in this state, while modifications to the air flow meter will give the risk of lower performance due to the mixture being too rich or too lean, and give the risk of damaging the engine due to detonation if the mixture is too lean"

Thanks for your comments. And I do know how it works. Unfortunately, unless I replace my factory computer, taking the O2 sensor out completely will give me a nice warning light (not to mention performance in limp home mode).

I replaced mine with a like for like replacement because the previous one was stuffed (or nearly anyway). With modern computer controlled engines, particularly the ones with closed loop systems like on a TJ, there is little gain playing with the sensor - but too much to lose with a damaged one.

My sensor was tested and found to be lacking in performance.

I found that the cheapest i could get one an 02 sesnsor for my surf was $140 from butler auto mart. found a place an aus that could get me one for about $55 shipped to my door with the appropriate flange. will let you know how it does when i order it. mine was a single wire but they can do 4 wire ones for about $80
they are at http://www.hiflow.com.au
