im looking for an afordable 4wd my budget is about 2-3 k.
lots of troopers around for this price but i dont know anything about them
are they any good and easy to do up.

for that coin get an old surf or hilux, or suzuki 413 410

Hi guys, new to this forum, but here goes, Troopers here are underrated, I went through a process when i bought my 4wd and yes it is a bighorn, soled as a trooper in Aus and here in NZ badged as a holden, very big in th US and also very capable, easy to do up with loads of parts available.

It's pretty standard to the best of my knowledge, 2.8TD manual.

Hey Fish, I have been using mine for the past 3+ years for the family stuff and of course the occoasional diversions that you do, have fitted auto lokka to the front, suspension lift (shocks and coils), new front bumper and rear, getting side bars fitted as we speak, snorkel, works very well!

Steve from this site is using one as a basis for a family 4wd, but he is going a little more challenging and doing a chev swap and solid front axle.

the trick with these is all the front is a little limiting, you can get around that with a locker it depends on how far and how hard you want to go.

good big roomy cab tho and has all the features you want (heated seats etc) great to dry them out after those river crossings (if you trust them).

Front bar ARB and winch for a bighorn.

the boys at 4wd upgrades play with one of these, earlier shape, solid beam front, coiled and lux diffs, supercharged holden v6 with nos, 36,s, anything is possible

well i bought it.
1989 irmscher 2.8 turb intercooled short wheelbase.
totaly imaculate in and out, sill bars and a factory lsd.
its a big improvment from my rocky. good price too.
does anyone have any idea what size tyres you can run on these standard. (it doesnt need a lift it has no sag at all, i think im the first person to take it offroad)

Im guessing 31's, mine has 32s and it has been lifted but standing it next to a standard bighorn i dont think they would fit on it.
