Hey guys, i am considering making my own snorkel for my hilux out of mild steel exht pipe and mandrel bends.

I was wondering what size pipe to use, i was thinking either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2

the engine is a 3 litre (5l) non turbo diesel

cheers
Dave

If you use 3", you can use a snorkle hat to finish it off. You can buy them at any 4x4 shop off the shelf .

looks good, I am having a re think on the snorkel, had planned on going throught the fire wall and kicking up out of the guard and up the passengers A pillar, just didn't consider that the wiper motor is mounted there

Gonna pull the Guard off soon and have a look-ee see whats under there

Proabably just aswell you flagged that as it would be near impossible to get a WOF with a dirty great hole in the firewall.

Not true i run a 4" pipe through my firewall and have a filter behind my glove box, certed and wofed.

You can see the pipe on the far side of the motor. Would not reccomend it for a daily driver though, induction noise starts to piss you off after a wile.

interesting points, i know it can be done from a WOF stand point, but the location of the wiper motor means that it wouldn't be the easiest track to clean air at altitude

like i said, gonna pull the guard off the left side and see how much room is under there, trying to avoid to much pipework hanging outside the truck!!!
