1KZTE into a Hilux??

Am seriously thinking of repowering my LN65 Hilux from the crappy 2.4 non turbo to something with a bit more get up and go. Has anyone done, or know of anyone who has put a 1KZTE into a 1985 Doublecab? Will it fit?

Have thought about a 3L, but I want a bit more grunt. There is always the option of putting a 1UZFE or 5MGE as well. Have been quoted $7000 to put the 1UZFE in by Kaiapoi Repowers. Not sure if thats a good deal or not.

Any thoughts or opinions on what may be the right decision?

Many thanks

Kaipoi repowers did my 1UZFE repower, PM me if you want to discuss it.

The 1UZ is a great motor and puts out plenty of power but is difficult to keep cool.

The 1KZTE would surely fit, the KZN130 Surf's aren't that much bigger than the earlier models and would probably be a better balance overall. Not as much power but an easier install and closer to factory.

it will fit no probs dude...

i had a 1kz in a ln106 dble cab(newer shape).i just moved the mounts back a bit and ditched the efi and the pump was made mechanical and then its very simple and i like to have control over fuel psi opposed to an ecm and resistors.

the 5l are a good engine but no rocket but go better than the 3l but stay away from the hiace 5l model they are failing bearings..we have a 5le in a 99 extra cab 4wd ute and its on 367k and dosent burn oil !!

go the 1kz but dont #### around with a copper radiator man.....i used one from a 2002 sr5 all alloy ..and keep the viscous and run an elec fan aswell

its not hard to punch out 100kw from these things

best of luck.

is this documented anywhere ? I am tempted to do this conversion also, but I have no idea how to successfully disconnect the EFI so the engine will still run/boost.

I would consider running the auto as well.

many thanks,

to fit the 1kzte in you have to do a 50mm body lift so you can shut the bonnet jeff at j3 automotive has done heaps including his own we wire them up 4 him jeff is the marster of that conversion

to be more specific, I need the wiring info to run the 1KT-TE engine without the fuel computer.

you wont get the same power if you run a 3l injector pump and the 1kztes dont have the problems like the early 2ltes it cost about $500 to wire in a 1kzte thats a tow in drive out job :D

it'll cost a lot more than 500bux if I have to tow it to wellington from the bay of plenty.

This type of thinking isn't going to work. If someone figures out how to wire up a 1kz-te engine then the trick is to document it somewhere.

Have you guys thought of having a wiki to document all this sort of thing ?

sorry to bring back an old topic, I also have thought about this converison - can you fit the 1kz-te to the standard gearbox, is there an adaptor of some sort available for the bellhousing? - I hear the boxes behind the 1kz-te's have the transfer case on the opposite side apposed to the 2l box (g52?) so they will not line up wiht the standard diffs..
