LJ71 grease point locations

Went to grease the cruiser today and could only find 4 grease nipples. Two on ends of each front and rear drive shaft. There must be more, but where?

I assume there are plugs in rather than grease nipples so would appreciate if someone should but me in the right direction.

should be 3 on each driveshaft, one on each universal joint and one on the splined slip joint. Check all your steering ball joints, some have grease nipples and some dont? If the truck has had greasable shackles fitted they will have grease nipples on them (and the fixed pins) :wink:

Some people drill and tap the filler plug on the swivel houseing, for getting grease into the CVs.
If this has been done, DON'T over fill the houseing, as the grease will run along between the outer axle and the stub axle, into the electric hub slip rings [ this if you still have them]

If youve got a leaf spring one make sure you check the shackles and pins cos they rust almost through. Happened to my 87 cruiser, and even my 96 cruiser was well on its way. Also the shock pegs. If this has happened repco sells greasable pins and shackles for not too much (about $20 for a shackle assembly).

Oldblue- how do you top up the knuckles correctly? I undid the bungs at the top and pumped them with the greasegun till couldnt get anymore in.
if its gonna crud my elec hubs better do it properly I spose :shock:

There is an 'O' Ring inside the stube axle bronze bush, to stop the grease or water from entering the electric carbon brush area.
You will only get grease past this O ring if you have a grease nipple fitted to the bung and give it far to much grease.
You can check the amount of grease by undoing the inner swivel felt /rubber seal, they would take about 3/4 of a cartridge.
