Replacement Bumpers

Post by wjw »

I\\\'m going to be replacing my front and rear bumpers soon, and am looking for ideas on what size to make them, what add ons are useful (hooks, eyes etc) . These will be made from scratch so anything goes. Except of course to stay legal nothing can protrude forward of the leading edge of each bumper.

Ah and ideas on bull bars, what to make them from etc. I was going to use 5mm Steel the \'U\' shaped stuff with perhaps a bend at each corner. And maybe make the bull bars out of 50mmx25mmx4mm box section.

Any ideas / pics etc would be great.

Cheers,

Bill

An Idea

Post by Kent »

I'll try and get a photo of A friends one he has a setup which I really like and I think I will try and do it on my own car when I get the chance.

He has a landcruiser but it would work on most 4wds

What he has done is make a short bumper that just fits around the ends of the chassis, this leaves great room in front of your wheels, he has then had bars made up that come off the top of the bumper and around the front of the guards and then up around the car and back on to the side running boards.

I'll try and post a pic in the next few days.

Cheers Kent

Looks good I've just ordered some 3mm plate for mine, will be cut and bent to shape. Dimension for the front are 200mm(h)x100mm(d)xWhatever I decide.

Was going to have bars that come up from both sides above the bonnet level for mounting my shovel & cb arials and some hooks to put my recovery ropes/straps on. Will be made out of 3mm tube, not sure what size yet though, will order that once I've finished the main bumper.

I wasnt going to do the wrap around thing, but I might take another look at it. I've also measured up a few winch roller setups to make sure a winch will fit in later.
