For shackles that long you may want to weld/brace them in the middle so they are one piece. might wander all over the place if they slop around while driving on the road.

doesnt go near the road as isnt leagal but da few times i drove it while being towd didnt feel to bad

Sweet as, just thought to mention it. I know off road the longer shakles give a much smoother ride. Also saw an article on the outerlimits suzuki forum about moving the shackle hanger 50mm so the angle is more pronounced to give better downward travel. Seemed logical so maybe something I will try when all my plans come to fruition (the Missus weakens and says yes I can get a new truck).

I believe you move the shackle pivot point on the chassis closer to the fixed end of the spring but I would assume that the spring pack would have to be soft to get the maximum amount of flex.

The link to the zuk spring story is (stuff is part way down)

looking good 2rocky :) thats some beast now
whats involved with the body lift? im looking at maybe a modest 1' one (mainly as they seem to sneek past the local wof shop without notice)

After the weekend performance i really need more ground clearance, I have a set of hilux springs coming from a club member but as Ive just been diagnosed with a hernia i cant fit them yet until I recover from the operation :(

at least I will be able to fit my winch this weekend should be here tomorrow or thursday... father-in-law has offered to do the lifting of the winch into place once i make up the mounts for it, I had a poke around under the front bumper and I think there is enough room to hide the winch behind it with having to modify it much

shame we live at the oposite ends of the country .. would be good to catch up and have a good look at ya beastie'(s)

the best and easist way to get more ground clearance is tweak the torsion bars and big feet,

as for the body lift there are 5 blocks a side its just a matter of pulling the old ones out and get some new ones. i used white nylon blocks for mine ya can see the front one in one of the pics but id recommend that you go to a wreakers and try and find larger rubber ones will kep the ride a litle soffter and vibration free

Thats a pretty sweet piece of hardware you're building there dude. Wish i could build up something like that, Just its a bit dodgy having a vehicle on a trailer in Porirua, The locals tend to borrow them....

since last post ive done a little more to the beast, put the fuel tank on the deck, not ideal for center of gravity but needed to do it before the rear diff knocked a hole in it, have a winch for it now just have to get a drive cog for it ( anyone know of any their like rocking horse shit to find) longer shocks and beefed up front shock mounts n place. just have to reposition the mounts higher now as i dont have enough up travel and they bottom/top out

this build seems to keep on going,

now have the pto winch on it just need to pull it appart and cut the cradle down to reduce the dist it sticks out and build a new bullbar for it.

this coming year it is going to become coiled i think as well

looks like a good wee truck do you have soa looking at putting hilux diffs under mine and doing soa

Re: project hardrock

nope its just the standard diffs with extended hangers and large body lift, im thinking i might change to safari diffs as i keep breaking cvs and axels and coil it at the same time

much work in doing it? have you looked into it? i should prob do something with mine cos if you break them with standard motor mine wont last long with v6 turning them. do you need any motor parts i got a good runner here 2.8 turbo

not too sure being that mines only a offroader i can do it how i like, but if your going to keep yours leaf sprung there is bugger all in doing it and you'd be better going to hilux or 80 series diffs as they are slightly narrower than the safari so cert wouldnt be as much of an issue,

could be interested in the whole motor at the right price
either that or just the turbo and intake manifold and oil lines for it

forgot to add my tyres are putting a lot of stress through the axles being 33x12.5 mongrels when they bite they often bite pretty hard, twisted a rear drive shaft up one time, the other problem i have is my drive shafts must have a lot of movement in them as they keept spiting the bolts out even if they are loctited in, might have to go to nylocs and see if that helps

I used 60 series cruiser diffs in my Blizzard.

I moved the rear mounts on the chassis out by 70odd mm but the fronts are identical
