Im workin on the photos,
Now am I dreaming or can I do a lexus transplant for under 5k, What is the cheaper? mate the lexus to my g52 5 speed or through the lexus auto in with it, Have had a price for all parts for the manual conversion including link computer and block hugging headers and I saw no change from 7k ( also included a custom radiator )

well i plan on doing it for less than that, but thats me doing it all myself and i also know people in the know so it makes things cheaper an easier for myself. When you get your link buy it through someone thats done alot of lexus tuning and has a good tune already to load into your link. dont be cheap an buy a 2nd hand link, theyre approx 1200bucks for the new G3 which are a HUUUUGE improvement overthe old ones, cheaper if you know people but if you get one through a good tuner they can load the tune into it for approx $200 but it saves you having to do the whole dyno thing and your away laughing all you gotta do after its wired in is plug it in

doesnt really answer your question but filled in time for me

I'm now heading down the same path with mine... from what I've been told and found so far going manual 5k seems to be about the norm if your able to do some of the work, at 7k I'd expect to be able to drop off the truck and drive it home
Me I'm working too a budget of 2 and a half  8)
- Motor $1200 including a lexus trans, save the bellhousing, torgue converter/plate
- Trans $360, surf auto with computer and dash(need the dash for a speed sensor  ) bolts up to the lexus bellhousing 8)
- Comp $400,(this is where ya save a bit of coin  ) talk to Matt (Mattwelly) off this site he is selling a build ya self comp that with a bit of reading you'll be able to build and is fully programable 8)
- Radiator $280 for a new 5L holden one
and the rest goes on crap like new engine mounts, wire and woodstock

the only thing holding me up at the moment is time

To do a manual properly you're looking at around $5k if you do ALL the work I would say. All the bits & bobs add up.

Anybody that would do a drive away conversion for $7k would have to be a very good mate, or a total cowboy.

If you're trying to keep the cost down I would go for the auto, Lexuses (Lexii?) kill hilux gearboxes.

oh youve gotta be kidding a just wrote a huge post n for some reason i got logged out an it was lost

anyways de-ranged,
what surf are you getting this auto out? what is it? a343f?
ive been told they dont bolt onto the lexus bellhousing. id like to go with the auto i have at the moment just means some modification to bellhousing as far as i know? unless im missing something?

as for your $400 comp, from what ive been told from very wise blokes that have wired them, owned the lexus's in a van an two trucks theyre a very tempermental engine when it comes to cold start and at the very least youd want to run a new g3 link to get a nice smooth running lexus without to much hassle.

i have to agree with clint, all the small bits add up, i was told around the 7k mark as well by a reputable outfit, it went way beyond that, i mean waayyyy beyond, my brother in law did his own, he did all the work and it was still over 6

the 7k was for parts only so I still had to think about all the other bits that seem to add up but went and saw the lux that jafa is building tonight and I am sold on doing a 7mge instead. that truck of his is awesome

Yep, but you will need a few 5m bits as well, like upper engine mounts, bell housing, and a supra clutch etc. Altho we should be able to mate the g52 box to the auto bel with some CNC trickery
you could just buy this lot, its exactly whats required

This combined with that Cressie and your away!!

PS pop down on Saturday and we'll go for a squirt in my 7m Surf, see what you think

o and read thro this as well

:? yep its a A343 integral transfer.... think thats the F seem to mess that one up, got one in the shed now and fits fine came out of a Hiace van, if you can give me a week or so got another coming from a surf .... I don't know about modifications can't see any problems the lexus bellhousing fits the motor and dosn't foul the box so I wouldn't do anything to it for the books the lexus trans is a A341 trans and should have exactly the same bolt pattern as any other A34x series trans the same way a bellhousing that fits a 5m will bolt to a 6 or 7m motor ....

Hmmm thanks for the heads up on the tempermental bit but I still think I'll go with the mega squirt build your own comp there is ALOT of info on the boards about fitting them to the 1uz motor so it'll just be a case of finding the solution to the cold start .... be buggered if I'm gona cough up $1500 for a link that won't do the multi maping I want  8)

hmmm don't know about cost the guys who I've talked to have done a few now and they are doing them for $5k mind you they are wise old men who know what fits and can be made to fit and don't just buy the pro solution
I'll be happy to post up my costs once I'm finished just for a comparasion

i work at tiwai point invercargill which is New Zealand Aluminium Smelters. I have to get 2405 which is a bearings unit but ive just finished over hauling two smaller bevel gear gearboxes very similiar to a diff set up, got them finished today actually so thats all i needed to get that unit finished and a helical milling unit and one small maintance unit havent decided which one yet.

HOWEVER i just happened to remember last nite my mates bro just put a lexus into his older hilux and is running a trans, guess what its a a343f!! they bolt straight on all you gotta do is take the input shaft from a lexus trans and pump and put them in the hilux trans and your away laughing, this is because the hilx shaft is too long. what hes doing bout his trans is taking it to bruce hughes in winton an getting it hard wired an bruce will either leave the shifter or he'll put buttons on steering wheel if thats what you want for about $300!! im stoked as. engine mounts are nothing!

Im stoked i was able to see how this was all done im going for it now i just gotta wait for the engine to arrive!!

Bring it on!

The Megasquirt computer can be better or can be more customised as a computer than the link can (as you build it yourself) but it can be a pita to setup, you need to know a lot more about your sensors and injectors etc.

The link is great if you want a fast build setup for the factory equiptment but if you have the time and put the effort in the Megasquirt would end up the better soloution, Also if you swap the lexus for a LS1  you replace the link but modify the Megasquirt to suit the different hardware.

The difference is in time and tuning, the link has everything ready to go iof you specify the engine you have, the megasquirt has a fair bit to configure to get it going. I have done a Link into a evo and a Megasquirt to an evo, the link worked the Mega took a while to get the engine to start and more time to get right but it was night and day once done. The Megasquirt had more fuel and ignition points so more power, better economy and cold start. It was far closer to a factory computer for AC control and idle speed control than the link, but you do need to understand EFI engines and the accessories (injector type high low impedance, relay polarity, and sensor type etc).

Each has merits, and the Megasquirt teaches you a hell of a lot about how an EFI car works, and where to look when thing's start going funny, and the link is a fast way to get up and running.
