350 TPI swap

Post by 4X4BEAST »

:D Hi all,
Needing advice from those that know. We have got ourselves a 1989 chev 350 TPI to replace the older 1969 350 4 bolt chev and need to know if we can reuse the block hugger headers, the clutch cover / plate. I have been told that the fly wheels are different but will the cluch still fit.
this motor has a flexi plate so we are also looking to buy a fly wheel to suit if anyone knows of a blowen motor lying around.
The computer has been sorted out to work with a manual transmition. (4 spd. fi40 Toyota).
look forward to any help/advice you can offer.
Regards,
Brian.

hi there good to see the sthlanders are are another step ahead of the typical chev powrd cruza owners, carbs and dirt and h2o are bad chemestry, and as for cheap mans injection we wont even go there, anyway i have have a lt1,lr1 type 2 from a 95 vette which also was running the 700r4,with the tpi wether its a 305 or a 350 youle have the 1 piece rear crank seal (depending on the eng year) youl prob need a 14 inch flat faced flywheel to suit and youle prob have to mod youre starter mount, and re drill your fly to suit your p plate, youle also have to get youre ecu regraphed to delete the auto trans module and youre v.a.ts module deleted aswell for the motor to run (easier said than done!!!)and ditch all that emmision crap the yanks love.and the list goes on!!!!,its a short road comparring to my eng instal .hope this is some help to ya no one will ever answer this post on this site because 2 many people ONLY READ THE MAGS TO SPEAK THE LINGO. GIVE CHARLTON IMPORTS A CALL IN GORE AND THEY WILL HAVE BITS FOR YA I HOPE,OR IF NO JOY TRY DAVE GREEN AT SPECIALTY CARS AND CO MATAMATA(HELL BE ABLE TO FIDDLE WITH YOURE ECU)

Toyking Thanks for your reply. furtunatly I didn't wait for a reply to my questions here. In fact it has been so long that I had forgotten all about this post.. Almost all of your hints have been followed. I ended up with another motor from Charlton in gore. Now a 1991 TPI 350. Bought a new fly wheel and re drilled to suit clutch, starter motor that I had bolted straight on, exchanged block huggers for proper Corvette Headers and spent some time reshaping them a bit to get everything to fit between the chasie rails.... Motor is now in and running. Just need to tidy up a few bits and pieces to get LVV Cert in the next couple of weeks, then give me MUD !!!
