Hi all, I am new to the Nissan Terrano but I do have experience with working on MQ patrol and 720 ute that I owned in the past.

I will be doing some improvements soon but I want to make sure that I am on the right track, so I have some questions that I hope you guy’s can help answer to sort me out so I don’t waste my time and money or make it go bang!!!

I am thinking about running 13psi boost with a 3â€

Ok, it looks like a 3" dump pipe and a 2&1/2" system with a 14" straight thru muffler may be the go? according to the local exhaust bloke this will be the best set-up if I run 14psi boost.

David, where did you have in mind for mounting the intercooler, I ask this question as there is little spare room in the Terrano's.

Can you post pics of your setup as you make the mods please?

If my research indicates that the ideal size intercooler is say a 400mmx300mmx75mm or a size that can not be easily installed under the bonnet then I will probably mount it externally between the bull bar and grill. but I will also look for other suitable locations to mount it or maybe use two small intercoolers to fit them underbonnet. yep I will post pics as I do the mods

PSI Boost reflex size of Inter-cooler required

Using a formula that is applied to turbo charging Harley Davidson’s ( which I have researched in depth and liased with an engineer specialising in turbos for Harleys) and taking into account the engine revolutions to peak torque point, the core size would work out to be as follows;

Running approximatley 15PSI boost - core size required is 450mm x 300mm x 75mm or equal to approx 10,100,000 square mm

Running approximatley 10 to 12PSI boost - core size required is 400mm x 275mm x 70mm or equal to approx 6,600,000 square mm

For a stock standard 2.8td Hilux the recommended inter-cooler core size is 540mm x 140mm x 62mm or equal to approx 4,700,000square mm

GOOD SIZE INTER-COOLER

Ok, I have found out sizes of inter-cooler cores for a diesel engine of about 2.7L

If you want to run turbo boost at about 10 to 14psi look for an inter-cooler of about 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 squared mm

If you want to run turbo boost at about 15 to 16psi look for an inter-cooler of about 9,000,000 to 11,000,000 squared mm

example; if the inter-cooler core size is 450mm x 300mm x 75mm, you multiply 450 by 300 by 75 and the answer is 10,125,000 squared mm, so the inter-cooler is good for a 15 to 16 psi boosted 2.7TD engine.

P.s I am going to purchase a second hand inter-cooler of about 7,000,000 square mm as I want to run about 14psi of boost.

Hope this makes sense and help others , regards David

Hi, just wondering how the short dump pipe from the turbo is going to be under water,as its such a short distance from the turbo to the end is there a greater chance of sucking water in if stalled under water?? sounds awsum tho, i have a good intercooler on my td27t and am looking foward to a good on/off road thrashing oops i mean test,
