Does anybody know how to time the injector pump on the Isuzu 4JB1 T
The normal method of rotating the pump until you find the dead spot does not work on this pump.
Ideas please

ok, i got my manual out and its sounds a bit difficult and looonng. You need a special dial guage and fitting.

turn crank to TDC on compression #1,
unscrew bleeder plug from end of inject pump between inj pipe connectors,
dial test indicator along with special probe and adaptor to screw into bleeder plug hole.
mount dial gauge to adaptor,
position the gauge so that its plunger is at midpoint of its travel and tighten locking nut.

turn crank backwards (opposite to normal) approx 1/4 turn, set guage to zero, turn crank a little both ways making sure dial gauge stays at zero, turn crank slowly in normal direction until 12 degree BTDC mark on crank pulley is inline with the pointer on timing cover. ( the needle poking out between the top and bottom pulleys)

dial reading should be 40degrees.

if not, undo pump mounting bolts lightly and slowly rotate pump body until you get that reading on gauge, then tighten and make sure it doesnt move!

if its easier, i could photocopy the whole lot and post it to you. there must be an easier way to time it, im just reading out of the book.

A place i worked at had a snapon deisel timing light, place a little clamp on the no 1 injector pipe and use it like a normal timing light on the bottom pulley.

Much easier if you can find someone who has one of these takes about 5 mins to check the timing

My mate turned up again tonight with the dial gauge ... followed the instructions above ... 10 min later its all done ...
