2 inch flexi flares of Trademe $100ish for all four, and a sheet of black mudflap material from palmside.co.nz $60.

Yes, they are absolutly useless off road. They come uncliped from behind the flares off road as they are very prone to hitting or scraping as they are the widest point of the vehicle if you are running standard rims, the steel brackets rust through very quickly, and the flares collect dirt behind them and start to make the guards rot.
If you like the standard flares, what i was going to do before i got rid of them altogether was get a roll of that mud flap material as i mentioned, and make up some mud flaps to fit the flares that were lighter and better anchored. May be you should do that, as if you just replace the flap, you are no better off, its only going to walk again.

Onya DB.Good advice.Would you reccomend the rubber,or the urathane material for the mudflaps? And would you just pop rivet the mudflaps to the flares?I bet the genuine nissan mudflap replacements are expensive too....

Well, the stuff i used from Palmside was rubber i believe, i got some once that i used on a rally car i built. Its good stuff. The sheet is plenty big enough to make four flaps.
Don't see why rivets wouldn't work, rivets with some broad washers to spread the load. Quick to put on, look tidy, and they won't seize up like nuts and bolts would, you just drill em out!!! If possible i would personally try to avoid drilling into the body work, only the flares. Use the existing hole in the inner guard and the origional bolt/screw. I really gotta take some picks for ya. Tonight i promise!!!

I actually ended up using some conveyor belting for my mud flaps, i got my hands on some thin stuff, but it is really still to thick and heavy. If i did it again i would definatly go for the stuff from Palmside.

I will have a crack with the rubber 1st i think.cheaper too.How do you get on with rust in Wport?I`ve recently installed a anti rust device.it works on impressed current, and sacrifical anodes. The anodes are already growing `fungus` on them.So I guess my GU must`ve needed the protection.I used to drive thru/stopover in Westport about 10yrs ago.I used to truck the backpackers from Nelson to Qtown.Must be due for a trip down that way with my sons soon.Probaly be during the duck hunting season though.Later...
