DIY - choosing an inter-cooler for a 2.7 to 3.0TD

Post by reo »

The following infomation is to help you choose the correct size inter-cooler whith out having to pull your hair out!! :-@

If you want to run turbo boost at about 10 to 14psi look for an inter-cooler of about 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 squared mm

If you want to run turbo boost at about 15 to 16psi look for an inter-cooler of about 9,000,000 to 11,000,000 squared mm

example; if the inter-cooler core size is 450mm x 300mm x 75mm, you multiply 450 by 300 by 75 and the answer is 10,125,000 squared mm, so the inter-cooler is good for a 15 to 16 psi boosted 2.7TD engine.

P.s I am going to purchase a second hand inter-cooler of about 6,000,000 to 7,000,000 square mm as I want to run about 14psi of boost on my 2.7 Nissan.

Hope this makes sense and help others , regards David
