Bikes I've had, and what I have now...

Thought I'd kick this into gear... Bikes I've owned...

I learned on an old bike that I'm not sure there are any photos of - was a mixture of old Kawasaki, very old Honda (SL175 from memory) and various other parts... Fav. memory of that bike was the first time I rode it ever - approx age 10 - on a beach in Dunedin... right past a topless woman sunbathing in the dunes - I immediately fell off

From there I bought a Honda XL185S, then a KDX200, then an XR250, then an ATK406 - my pride and joy for 2 weeks, until it was stolen

(recovered 2 years later and rebuilt at huge cost... awesome bike tho)

More recently I've owned another KDX200, a KX250 and have just got myself a TT350 to do a few quiet trail-rides although I already wish I had something more scarey

Its a very tidy bike, but I like my 2-strokes too much so I'll probably go back to one sometime soon... I'd like a KTM300exc or something similar (or bigger

)

There have been a few other bikes I've forgotten in there somewhere, like a YZ490 I bought to rebuild but never got around to... I'll dig out some pics

Looks like you have had a few cool biks supralux. Nothing like a 2 stroke ah.

I started with a 1982 PE175 when i was 12, which i ended up mixing with with a old Kawasaki AGI250 Farm bike :lol:

What a pig that was. Kick start never worked so it had to be crash started everywhere :lol:

Then went onto a 88 YZ125, which cost me alot of money and was slower than an early 80's ER125 :shock:

Bit of brain fade made me buy a DR250 electric start next, real heavy pig.

Then bought a 1992 Yammaha WR250, scariest bike i had, power ban kicked in real late and threw you around. Broke all the bones in my left hand and shattered a couple of bones in my left foot on this bike. But was heaps of fun.

My latest bike was a RM250, just about everything had been rebuilt and with the FMF fatty exhaust went really well. Sold it to fund part of my safari bild up. :cry:

Looking to buy a new one when ive got some spare cash, probly a fairly new 2 stroke 250. Do like the idea of the KTM300EXC though.

used to have bikes back in the 1980's

1st one was a 1974 TS185L trail bike I got as a 16 year old, like all my cruisers it eventually fell apart from old age. I got the bug then and brought a 1979 RM125N motorcross bike with a really high end porting job. I think the porting job was a bit of a f*** up coz it could be a bitch of a thing to get up into the power band but shit it pulled once it got up there :shock:

Moved on from that one and got a 1 year old 1983 RM125D, I think it was one of the first water cooled bikes but still had drum brakes. That thing flew and was heaps better than the piece of junk 1 year old KX125? I replaced it with a couple of years later. I think the KX came out of the box as a lemon coz the guy that was racing it didnt keep it for long and I had nothing but major problems with it while I owned it.

Oh... and yeah I broke a few bones along the way :roll:

started out on 2 wheels but ended up on 4, had an a model 79 xr 250 to start off with then kdx 250 , cr250 but 250 is bit small so went to kx 500 98 one of the last big 2 strokes , got rid of that and have kept my quads instead trx 300 2wd and klf 400 4wd plus a atc 200 trike that i put a xr 400 motor into which with drum brakes and no suspension is hairy to ride, had a 430cc warrior but chain drive and hand clutch is no fun up where we ride so sold to my bro in auckland, plus i am lazy now i like eletric start and 4 wheels or 3 will put pics in album cause still to dumb to put up here,

started with a pw80 when i was 1 then moved to a ds80, then went to a couple of hybrid bikes kx80 with a xr200 motor, then a CR125 frame with a Xr400 motor -real nice bike. then used dads klx250 til my klx300 arrived, then i got my current bike ktm250 nice to ride but rode a gasgas 300 and now im hooked

Oh, I had a TS185ER for a while too - stupid piece of junk... and used to stick on wide-open throttle every now and then, which was fun when going over jumps

- even did it while jump-starting it downhill one day - on my mates drive... down the drive, down the street across an intersection at full noise through traffic and into a block wall :lol:

Didn't affect you at all either did it me old flower?? :lol:

Oh and my first and only bike was an XL100s Hoonda. I bought it when I was 15 (26 yrs ago) and I still have most of the bits. Engine is in Rokpups buggy.

i wish but as im a student thats a bit of stretch-

unless you would trade for a "unraced" ktm250exc with one slow owner, never been out of first gear, bla bla bla....yea right probaly got more time near redline than should be done

sadly I had to give up trail bikes from a cracked vertabra ( read spine). Came off my TT500 on a large jump, cracked my spine, broke three ribs, two fingers and a collar bone. These were the days when I would load the trailbike into the back to the troopie and drive off till I couldn't go any further then ride the trail bike. Long way home with those injuries. Before that I owned XR 250 TT 250 and XL185. Road bikes were RZ250, GPZ400, GPZ750, ZZ1100, ZX900. Gald I got the speed thing out when I was young :wink:

Jeez those things are as rare as rocking horse shit :!:

I got my fisrt bike while i was at highschool which was a trusty 1987 XR250. it blows heaps of oil :shock:

but is as reliable as ever

In my possesion at the moment is a 2002 Husqvarna WR360 2-smoker

Apparently there are'nt too many of these around and its the only one I kmow of on the 'coast. Being an enduro it doesnt have a great top end but click it up a gear and your off.

After the olds stopped stressing I moved onto....a YZ125 followed by a YZ250, IT490, XL250, XR250, XL500, another two XR250, XR600.
Whilst living in Oz had briefly a YZ426 then bought this as a resto project.
Now selling as I can longer risk falling off.

Do quad bikes count?

My first bike was a TS185. Thought i brought a pile of crap till I had the muffler de carbed. After that, I knew what a "powerband" was! :shock:

I owned that to use on a farm. When I left school (I mean, kicked out) my folks thought I'd grow up faster working as a farm hand on a sheep station up in North Canterbury. Yup! It worked. :roll:

I haven't been into bikes till I brought my first quad a couple of years ago. But learning the hard way (as I do) I piled that into a large heavy fence post, bending the frame and front right a arms. (bugga)
I'm waiting on a replacement frame before getting that fixed.

It's an BRP Outlander powered by a Rotax Vtwin 800cc beast.
It's a lot of fun (if you can stay on the thing) :lol:

This is my pride and joy.
It's the Renegade made by Can-Am. It's power plant is the same as the Outlander, the Rotax Vtwin 800 but this bike isn't a utility like the Outlander but is still a 4X4. It's lighter and has more travel, better suspension and brakes. I love it!
Though I love 2 wheelers my hearts with the 4X4s.

favorite bike when i think back was yz 490 and i,ve still got a couple, aircooled, simple as yet get to the straight at a maize paddock and nothing modern could touch it, in rgv frame with w/cooled head and 82hp back straight at taupo vibration was so bad my eyes would cloud over and everything would go white.......even after 500dollars of crank work

Before buying a quad I never heard of the Rotax motor. Then once i had one, thrashed the absolute CRAP out of it, I was so impressed!! Bloody thing is bullet proof! I've even chipped one after modifing intake and extractors then had it dyno tunned. It's insane!!
I did a google search on Rotax and found they make engines for all sorts of things! Microlites, jetskis, motorbikes, gokarts, snowmobiles bimmin everything!!
I often ride from the Willows to the Waimac gorge and back (best time, 40mins each way) and have it tapped out all the way. Rotax never misses a beat. :shock:

bmw uses rotax engine, so does apprilia in the rsv 1000, new buell has a 140hp rotax engine, plus loads of other bikes early ktm,s, huskys etc
plus they also make evinrude outboards, ski-doo, sea-doo and then u got all the karts and airplane engines right up too jets

This was my second quad I had... it was one of the last Honda 250R's to race in NZ before the 4-strokes came in. I later converted it to a 330R which at the time was the thing to have, it was a great speedway bike - sold it 2 years ago to a young guy from Rangiora... don't know what has happened to it now!!!!

This was the last race bike I owned 2006 Honda 450R we modified the engine with a Baldwin cam and an LRD Performance pipe and that was it - she was a beauty....

What quad do you own now? And are there any good clubs worth joining in the Chch area?
I don't get alot of time to get the quad bike out lately but if there was a club event on I'd make an effort.
