Back in October 05, myself and girlfriend piled into my truck and did a north island trip. We stayed in a bach at Whitianga for a few days. Since it was nice weather etc, we decided to go out on a charter for the day.
We were fishing with a terikihi set up (ie small hooks, light line) as the water temp wasnt exactly warm enough for game fish.
We pulled up several terikihi, john dori, gurnard, and a few small snapper
I managed to pull the biggest fish of all!!
A 15.5 kg kingfish. Took about 25 mins to 'land'.
We got it smoked, shared it with many people down the island as we headed back home.
