hey there enthusiasts...

I have spent $3500 on my Sj 413 and am a poor student in otago.
have replaced all wheel bearings, tractor bearings had bugeted $2000...

and now my pride and joy has done its gasket :-(

I have friends that have more engine know how that can help me here.
I was driving on seal, heard motor "tacking" stopped and the dirt on her was cooking...

found hole about size of old 50 cent in radiator hose.
replaced that and have had her running very poorly twice since with no compression.
don't believe i have hurt her too much...

is it just a matter of getting a new gasket and throwing it in??
what about rings etc??

I really don't have money to throw at her but now its holidays i do have time...

IN DUNEDIN hurting...

You mean the head gasket blew? I just replaced one on mine recently. Compared to just about any other engine it is a very simple task and only took me about 3 hours working quite fast. It does involve taking off the head and everything attached to it so if you havn't done that sort of thing before make sure you get a workshop manual. Make sure you get the surfaces of the block an head clean enough to eat off and torque the head to the correct settings. Only cost me $20 for the gasket at supercheap.
