hi guys

jumped in the truck today to go to work and i couldnt select reverse!. so turned it off and put it in reverse then backed out the drive. got out on the road and shit, couldnt get it into gear.

now i know that it obviously has something to do with the clutch, but what exactly? the pedal still feels normal, the clutch fluid is at normal levels. so basically i just want to know if it could be anything else that i can check before i split it apart to have a look?

cheers

Hmmm  Can you still select all other gears with engine off?? Get someone to jump on the clutch pedal for you while you check the slave cylinder pushes the clutch fork to determine whether or not that side of things is working properly. If it is working properly see if there is a plate on the bell housing that you can take off and see if the release bearing is pushing on the clutch fingers. This will help diagnose whether it is the clutch side of things or if it is the gearbox causing the problem. Happy diagnosing. :D

had a bit of a poke around before. yes all gears are fine when engine off but when trying to drive down the road its hard to change gears. will try and look into the bell housing tommorrow when its a bit lighter.

Oh good that eliminates the gearbox then. :D Unless all synchros shit themselves at the same time which i highly doubt  Have you been in some deep mud or water later?? Your clutch assembly could be seized or full of shit. if its seized you will have to pull it out but if its clogged with crap you might get away with poking a garden hose up its date and flushing the bell housing/clutch assembly out. Let us know how you get on. Interseting one this is.

Ok you may find the clutch assembly has a rust scale from the water seizing up the clutch, so sounds like you will have to pull it out and free it up  . Check your pilot bearing and release bearing while you have it in bits to make sure they are all ok, will save having to pull it out again soon after you do the clutch just because one of the bearings pack up.

No problems with helping, anytime. 8)

well got it all sorted today. pulled the old clutch out and it all looked pretty normal at first. the after closer inspection on the bench for a bit of metal about 2 inches long by about 5ml wide jammed in the pressure plate.

its come off the middle of the clutch plate and has scored marks in the plate itself. so new clutch kit for me.

rang up repco, $435, um f*$k off im not paying that! super cheap auto were a bit better at about $350 but rang ilam toyota, top blokes there, $216 + gst  :thumright:

these guys have saved me quite a bit of coin lately. wheel bearings have saved me about $70 over repco. i even have a repco discount card but that useless.

anyway enough ranting. new clutch is in and all working good :D thank truck-fixer for the help. im out in rangiora most weekends if you wanna go take on the ashley or something

Oh good job mate! :thumright: Yeah Repco no good buddy. As I know Repco stands for Rip Every Poor C**t Off  . Yeah would be keen for a blat down there just saving for a lift kit first so i dont chew out my new mudders. Anyhow keep in touch and if you have any other troubles let me know and I will see what I can do.
