I just got this email from someone asking me, so I said Id ask on here for him.
"Hey dude,
Do you know if I can get rid of the vaccuum 4wd and run a lever? or can I run a vaccuum switch to run the H4?
Also, can I run a PTO on my prado? its an auto? I have heard that you have to take the PTO gear out of something else??
Cheers man
Jim"
Can anyone help this man out?

I know some transfer cases have the PTO drive gear and some dont. The split transfer case on my 70# only has a spacer on the shaft where the drive gear goes

. But I've got a split transfer case off a 40# I used to have and thats got the drive gear in it.
NO he can't have the drive gear out of my spare transfer case

I'm pretty sure the transfer cases are the same. (Prado & 70)
You must be able (I think...

) to to put the gear from a 70 into a Prado because thats what Bruce's winch truck runs and it is an auto.

From what I've been told if the PTO plate is removable then you should be able to get a gear and put it in, if not then you can't

70s Prado's were classed as a light duty cruiser so don't have a PTO Gear in the T/F box, so there was no provison in the floor pan for the PTO lever.some Prado's were fitted with an electric Toyota 12volt winch.
You can use the PTO Gear and spacer from the earlier 70s T/F case.

How do I know! done it on my own Prado. You need to split the T/C to do the installing of the gear.

thanks guys, I do have a plate on the side. I havnt opened it yet. Will one from a 40 work? how do I tell the difference between a non split case and a split 4 speed 40 series one?

All the 5 speed gear box's were split, and the very last of the 40s , think it was 1982- 83.
The non split were all one casting, where as the split were made in 2 pieces then bolted togeather.
