Cleaning out my LPG fuel line

As I recently bought a Cruiser with LPG (and a small 10l Petrol reserve) and the fuel gauge for it isn't very accurate i decided to run the tank down to near the bottom to give me a truer indicator of who much was in my tank.

Problem is I think I have picked up some crap in my fuel line now, runs fine on petrol, crap on LPG. real hard to start when cold, stalls when cold and sometimes when hot and starves itself of fuel and lacks power

Now- I'm don't know much about much but I figure it's a blockage in the line, yes-no????

Can I turn off the tank, disconnect it and blow air through the line to clear it???

Is there a filter??? How does that work

Or am I better off just taking it to the experts??? $$$$

I don't know anything about LPG apart from it comes in 9kg BBQ bottles, but your line should be under pressure with the gas anyway so I wouldnt think blowing it out would acheive much?

If it was me I'd be dropping it off to the guru's in the morning before work and pick it up in the afternoon running all sweet again

Thanks Marty, was kinda thinking the same, maybe the blockage is at the mixer???

Drop off and pick up is your answer to all your bloody truck issues, maybe thats why it's always going so well, might be a lesson in there somewhere........ Nah I will ignore it until it's fcked, then try and fix it myself, end up making it worse and then end up paying three times as much getting it fixed

turn the tap off, disconnect line at regulator, turn tap on and let it blow stuffs out. Just a thought ive just had rod

I think the blockage is more likley at the mixer /evaporator end from the sound of it, never had one apart so cant help.

LPG is heavier than air so make sure if you pull stuff apart you are not in a hollow or enclosed space.

There are no filters in auto LPG lines. Supply lines are small diam, but there shouldn't be anything in the LPG system. Any contaminants are very fine and show as oil or wax in the regulator/vaporiser (thing in the engine bay that the water lines go into). This is generally the cause of poor running LPG systems (older ones anyway) and should be cleaned out during an LPG tune up. The reg should have a bleed/drain in the bottom or perhaps the side depending on how it mounted (probably a screw or a bolt). Try to open this after you turn the engine off (ie while the LPG has pressure). You may get some gunk out. Don't start the engine with the LPG bleeding out. LPG tends to ignite - funny thing that. If this doesn't work then take it to the experts. The regs are pretty pissy things to take apart. Unless you want to be pissing around for ages then feel free to pull it apart.

I had my reg cleaned out recently, apparently they "gum-up" after a while with some sort or waxy deposits, the LPG guy in chch rekons they should be done "every 2 years or so", but I'm not sure if the lines cause any problems. Cost me $125 to get done I've also been told by several people in the know with LPG that regs are a f&%@en bastard to play with, so yeah, I'd send it in.....

Your mixer should have a bleed valve/nut under the mixer. unscrew this lots of waxy oil should come out let this drain then tighten up again try that
