Don't forget to visit Londenberry Rock at Kumara  :D

I have a track log - not sure that we were in the exact right place - what mapping program have you got?

That map shows both Cockeye creek and No Name rd. No Name is west of cockeye and intersects at right angles through to the greenstone river. We did Cockeye in nov last year, peice of cake as was no name, they were harder years ago 8) . Someone is filling in the holes

Did Cockeye on Queens Birthday. Tried from the Kumara End (Where you turn off at the iron shed and cross the Greenstone River) 3 kms up that track there is a fairly new looking gate with fresh diggings round it (i.e. trenches to make it impassable)

We went round the Marsden end and took two tucks up there no problem and that was after heavy rain. Don't just rush on expectign to get through some places, don't be afraid to get out and check, were a few washouts and one place we had to back track and go up the creek. Also I got quite stuck in a hole I couldn't be bothered checking first, (all fun) there were new tracks pushed through the bush to bypass it tho.

Took us 2 hours to get just up the cockeye to the forestry road including backtracking and digging out etc. Then on the way back after we knew the track we raced out in ½ hour trying to catch each other up!

I'd say its a little less 'shiney' than Napoleon Hill

If you are coming in from the Greymouth and the greenstone river is too high then you would have to turn back. Have only ever had to do this once. Good little track. I tend to go in from the Kumara end now. I would do it by myself as it has definitely gotten easier over the years. The guy who runs the 4wdriver training in Greymouth uses the track to train but also maintains it also. He has filled in some of the older larger holes  Make sure you have a winch, truck mounted/tirfor.

From Kumara Caltex head towards CHCH, just at the edge of town there is a side road on the left you turn on to. Drive down and over the river, keep going. You will find you come to a small clearing on the left side of the rd which has now been extended with a track off to the left. This will take you straight into the greenstone river. Just stick to the main track from there. If you have never been there it might be better to go with someone.
