Yesterday I was heading into town in my father's 98 Prado. There had been some issue at a house on Hills road and the police were there. Of course I looked at that, then looked forward and this guy was across the road backing his trailer into his drive.
The car in front of me stopped and I pulled up in time and immediately looked in my rearview. There was a big gap before the next vehicle but he was obviously rubbernecking at the cops too and was coming rapidly. He looked up in time to apply the brake but used the Prado backend to stop himself.
Pulled over and assessed the damage. His car had the bonnet folded up, the radator fluid was flowing out, something was hissing, the lights were crosseyed, the bumper was mutilated and someone was pulling parts off the road.
The Prado had a wee bit of paint dust I brushed off with my hand and a few stress marks in the bumper.
We exchanged details and we went on and was only 5 mins later than planned while he rung up to get a tow truck and replan his day.
I'll check the towbar wasn't pushed forward and weakened as I'm towing a trailer to Picton on tomorrow.
