More height on a Bighorn

Post by dazza85 »

I have a standard '89 Bighorn.
It has leafs at the back and IFS at the front. 30" tyres

When out last weekend I had a few problems with ground clearance

What would people recommend as the best way to gain some height.

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Drive with one rut down the centre of your vehicle so that the left wheels are on one side of the rut and the right wheels on the other. This way you won't belly out. Suspension lift probably best. See your local 4WD upgrader and get it done properly of you want it for road use too.

If it was the front rubbing, lift it, if it was the rear diff, you need bigger tyres.
Do both 8)

I did that with the shallow ones ...
The photo above was taken at the end of one of the deep ones ... the bank is half way up the windows

I was told that when you try to drive with one wheel down the center and one on the side the wheels on the center tend to slip off into one of the ruts, and this can result in more problems ...

Front is easy, you just wind up the torsion bars, back would be longer shackles?
Not sure, but with a 2" lift you should fit 32" tyres?
What size do you run now?

it all comes down to personal preferance, budget and what happens to come up while your looking

but I could always be biased by suggesting a Landcruiser/chev combination
