Bummer about the wicnh rope requirements. Will eliminate alot of people who want to attend. Don't know many club trucks that run synthetic winch rope. If the rules change on this due to lack of interest let us know as I would definitely enter if wire rope was allowed. Other winch challenges allow wire rope.

because of the 'recoil' factor?

the cost of synthetic rope is equilivent to the cost of about 1 tyre on your truck, its not that unaffordable?

 Didn't realise it was that cheap. May have to seriously think about changing over. And Nibby, synthetic still recoils, I have seen it do so.

But the tyre should last a lot longer and is not affected by UV to the same extent.

These smaller club type events should allow the use of wire cable. After all they are supposed to be fun events and you can't expect people to go and and buy extra (and expensive to most) gear just for the one event.

once you use synthetic rope you will never
go back to steel and wonder why you never did it earlier
even on club trips

Been there done that.
It's all right if just self recoverying as rope stays static.
On club trips where you end up winching other vehicles and the rope is damaged running through mud, dirt over rocks etc as rope is moving as you winch. You wear the rope out faster on club trips than in winch challenges and even there they don't last long.

For competition synthetic is better but don't make it compulsory and there force additional costs. Let the user choose don't exclude them if they only have wire.

I imagine anything would recoil but I would hope it wouldnt have the same energy when it hits at the other end like wire rope does. I've been standing on a bank when a wire rope hit it and it felt like the bank was about to take off it had that much energy in it

But yeah that was only a few years ago and that was at the kiwi winch challenge, so why the smaller winch challenges are already phasing out wire rope I can't understand, would have thought it would be the otherway around.

I had a Guy look but cant see where it is held other than "Timaru".

I am not saying Timaru is small (CHCH is small!) but where are we aiming for and will there be sign posts?

Cheers Steve.
